The man who escaped on the' night of Jan. 4 after, an attempt to holdup and rob Mayor Beavers, is now in the Carthage jail on the charge of stealing a watch at the Newland Hotel in Webb City on Jan. 8. His name is Jack Gormley and his home is at Tahlequah, Okla. After the attempted holdup here, at which time Gorm ley's partner, Everett Gray, was captured by Mayor Beavers, our officer's found out who the other man was and where he yvas from.

After he was.arrested and put in jail at Carthage he wrote to Tahlequah for help and it was through this letter that our officers learned where he was. Marshal Pearman, Sheriff Sanders and Mayor Beavers went to Carthage Tuesday and Mayor Beavers identified him. In fact Gormley admitted his identity. Little Troy Butler, 8 year old, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Butler was the victim of a painful accident this morning just before nine o'clock.

His mother was busy ironing and the boy went upstairs to build up the fire in a stove there. There were goals in the stove and it seems that after he put in some wood he threw in some coal oil. This created a gas which exploded and burned the little fellow quite badly. His hair, eyelashes and eyebrows are badly scorched and his face and nose badly burned. Miller-Brooks Meeting.

In spite of cold weather and slippery sidewalks, the interest these meetings continue and is growing. Last night witnessed fine service. The music under the direction of Mr. Brooks is inspiring and is lead-ing people to Christ. Evangelist Miller is preaching with power each night and the church is feeling the influence of the sermons.

His sermon last night was on "The Great Salvation" and was clear and forceful. He made it plain that salvation begins in fhis world and continues in the world to come. If we are saved now people will know it. Christ said to Zaccheus, "Today is salvation come to yout- house," and immediately we see the man of small stature phyafc- ally but big proportions religiously living a new life.
