"Sumta'y. Sept. 26. 1976' tht Bea rs Meet Win I ess Falcons Cardinals Hand Bucs 3-0 Loss Xr For their first 999 games, the Bears show 610 victories, 339 defeats and 50 ties. The Bears last defeated the Falcons in 1970, having lost three straight since.

Any football coach who is worth his whistle will tell you that it's fine to have a big play offense, but games are won and lost when the defensive unit is on the field. In Sunday's other games, Buffalo plays at Tampa Bay, Cleveland is at Denver, New England visits Pittsburgh, Miami hosts the New York Jets, Oakland plays at Houston, Minnesota visits Detroit, the New York Giants are at Los Angeles, San Francisco plays at Seattle, Dallas is host to Baltimore, Green Bay is at Cincinnati, New Orleans plays at Kansas City and St. Louis goes against the Chargers in San Diego. In Monday night's game, Washington plays at Philadelphia. ByThe Associated Press The rejuvenated Chicago Bears, having allowed but one touchdown in two victories placing them in first place in the Central, Division of the National Football Conference Sunday take on the winless Atlanta Fal- cons.

The Bears held Detroit to a field goal in their opening 10-3 victory and followed with a 1912 triumph over favored San Francisco last week, with the 49ers scoring a touchdown with less than two minutes to play to go-along with one field goal and a safety. Atlanta dropped its opener to Los Angeles 30-14 and held a 100 lead going into the final quarter against Detroit before the Lions rallied for a 24-10 triumph. 'fS The Falcons gave their No. 1 draft choice, Bubba Bean, his first start against Detroit, ST. LOUIS (AP) Lynn McGlothen pitched a four-hitter and the St.

Louis and the rookie responded by gaining 98 yards in 22 carries and scored one touchdown. The Bears were rated fourpoint favorites mainly because of their rugged defense and the running of Walter Payton. Pay ton had the biggest day of his two-year career against San Francisco, gaining 148 yards and scoring two touchdowns. The victory was costly because the Bears lost the services of linebacker Doug Buffone for the season because of a torn Achilles' tendon. Buffone, playing in his 142nd consec-utive game, was replaced by Ross Brup-bacher.

The game against Atlanta will be a milestone of sorts for the Bears. It will mark their contest since George Halas moved the club from Decatur, 111., to Chicago 'in .1921. The figure includes exhibition and post-season games. for the National League's East Division title Saturday. Either a Philadelphia victory Sunday or a Pittsburgh loss to St.
