(dr.) The series that O'Connor has in mind would feature rotating appearances by Dinah Shore, Dean Martin, Bob Newhart and himself. "I've talked with an NBC executive about it," he said, "and there seems to be some interest in the idea, but nothing has started to move yet." Until something develops along that line, O'Conner intends to limit his television appearances to occasional specials. He will appear tonight on NBC-TV as host and performer in "Arthur Freed's Hollywood Melody," a program saluting motion picture musicals. Also featured on the hour-long special are Richard Chamberlain, Nanette Fabray, Shirley Jones, Howard Keel, Yvette Mimieux, Juliet Prowse and David Rose and his orchestra. Y. C3) A musical for the benefit of Freedom Riders went off as scheduled Sunday despite picketing by 40 sign-waving persons. About 1,200 persons attended the program in a public school, which was sponsored by the Westchester County Committee for Freedom Riders. The committee declined to disclose the amount of proceeds, which it said will go to the Congress of Racial Equality, sponsor of the Freedom Rides. The pickets marched outside the school, carrying signs with such slogans as "Is This The Little Red Schoolhouse?" and "Russia, Cuba, now Scarsdale." Another sign read "Pete Seeger's Fifth Playing Inside" a reference to folk singer Pete Seeger who appeared on the program.

Seeger is free in $2,000 bal pending appeal of his one-year prison sentence las April for balking at a coni gressional inquiry into hi' possible Communist affilia! tions.
