The negro only missed the electrlo chair by the sympathy of the Jury In recommending him to mercy, the Judge announced.

John Campbell, another negro, who was sentenced to thirty-five years on a similar charge, through attorneys has appealed Ills case. Ernest Honson, who was given ten years for the shooting of Messrs. Talley, near Travolers Rest, will not be removed, pending the appeal which his attorney will take in his caso. That the celebration Sunday will bo a community affair In reality as well as In name seems to be a foregone conclusion. In all the communities around the city great Interest Is ebing shown and several bodies and groups from the nearby mills are planning to march under their own banners.

One of these organizations that will attend exercises In a body Is tho mills Y. M. C. A. According to Mr.

II, G. Evans there will be a mass meeting at 1:30 at the Y. M. C. A.

where the march will begin. It Is hoped to have every resident of the village In line and there will be an appropriate banner announcing the naiuii uf the delegation and what It represents From all other Industrial communities reports point to one of the greatest gatherings ever held in the city. Davenport, who resides on the Augusta road 22 miles from Greenville, It Is thought that poison caused his death, and acting upon this theory the stomach was removed and brought to Greenville for examination. Coroner Taylor went to the home, but did not hold an inquest. Mr. Davenport, who was 35 years old, leaves a wife and thereo daughters. Evidences of poison.

It Is said, were found during the brief illness preceding his death. The coroner stated that it Is not unlikely that Mr. Davenport died from a preparation made for the killing of rats. The stomach will be examined In order to ascertain the cause. There Is not the slightest suspicion of any foul play In the caso.

The examination Is being made mere-ly to ascertain the causo of death.
