This report created a shock in tbe community almost equal to the announcement, ten daj a before, that the bank had failed, as it showed that instead of depositors getting 75 per cent, as at first annouueed they would probably not realize over 25 per cent, and possibly not over 20 percent. Loss in notes and stock and bonds in the bank showed that the bank had received iU death blow during the panic of 1873, and had been struggling ever since to extricate itself from tbe shocks then received. It Is now told by several citizens that the last time the U.S.

Bank Examiner examined the bank, as a National bank, he said "tbe bank could not stand another examination and must close up." and to save the closing of the bank by the Government it was changed from a National bank into a private bank. Since that time, (Mr. Strong, we are told, baa written from Canada to parties in this city) be has been trying to gain lost ground by, the same old story, in speculating in wheat and stock and has lost heavily in his operations. When we went there they were having a merry frolic, apparently as happy in etch other's society as the children of any one household. Indeed Mr. Oppen's idea of the conduct of the institution is tha of a large family. Tbe family room are used by all and there seemed to be no more restraint between the orphans and Mr. and Mr.

The orphanage is one of the very finest buildings id the city, is large and roomy, built of brick, with tin roof and baa every necessity or convenience.

We will not describe minutely tbe school rooms, water tank rooms, private rooms, parlors, sitting-rooms, tc, further than to say tbat they are convenient and well kept The dormitories for tbe boys and those for the girl are in excellent order and tbe bed are good. It wa in tbe edge of tbe evening when wa were there and we noticed tbe little forms of mere babes sleeping quietly on several of tbe beds. Over twenty of the children gathered together around tbe piano in one of the parlors and tang sweetly for several pieces, both in English and German. They make a rousing chorus and are well trained.
