The rate of taxation for general city purposes is on the east side and 51.5(5 on the west side on S100 val uation, the total amount raised being This does not include the tax for sewer purposes which is a special tax levied on each district. The assessed valuation of the city this year is practically double what ic was last year being jii round numbers against 0 last year. The raie of taxation decided upon is just one-half last year's rate. The amount tube rKed its, therefore, substantially the same as last year. Sherman Kidd, a tah nted young painter, who is visiting his parents in that city alter com pleting his studies in Paris. Mr. Kidd, who is a brothi of Harry II.

Kidd of this city, is one of the few American painters who have bten able ti gain a fojtholJ in Paris and compete with the French aitists on their own ground. Mr. Kidd, after studying in this country, went to Paris in ly.iT. In he took the prize in the contest of the united studios of the Academie Julien. In he 6ent to the Salon a portrait which was accepted and exhibited, this being the branch of art rcust severely criticised by the masters of the Salon jury.

There have been 60 many first class attractions at the Green liay theater that it is difficult to designate any one as the "best," but there certainly has been nothing 6een here superior in its line to "The Storks," which was presented last evening by the original company, including May De Sousa. Catchy music well sung, a magnificent chorus and first clais comedy work, together constituted an attraction that thoroughly -ntertained one of largest audiences of the season.
