Earhart has been a resident of Tucson six years and is engaged In the real estate business. He also is a memher of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. A former resident of Santa Cruz county, Earhart was formerly engaged in the mercantile business at Patagonia and was Interested in mining developments near there. He served two terms as Santa Cruz county sheriff, two terms as treasurer and one term in the" state legislature. Earhart. also is a former Arizona state treasurer. During the Republican administration of Gov. Tom Campbell he was the ]one Democratic executive officer elected. House Likely To Deny Hiss Pension WASHINGTON-- Iff! --Sponsors predicted today the house will gnore administration protests and Ipprove legislation to deny Alger Hiss a pension. In hopes of crumbling some of the opposition, they have hung an "anti-traitor" label on the dozen- odd bills now pending before a house civil service subcommittee". Chairman Albert W. Creteila (R- Conn.) is confident the group, which held a one-day hearing on the proposals yesterday, will follow through quickly with legislation to prohibit annuity or retirement payments to any federal em- ploye convicted of a felony. Chairman Philip Young said !n R statement presented orTthe commission's behalf that the proposals are contrary to the 30-year-old "concept of the retirement 14w." He said an employe who meets ell requirements xmcler the retirement act Is "entitled to an annuity regardless of his reason for separation." The bureau of the budget also opposed the bills. It raised "grave doubt" that an employe could be "divested of rights" accrued under the civil service act, and questioned the wisdom of penaliziznzg "a guiltless wife, dependent child Or other dependent." Police found a brick and a knotted stocking near the body, which bore several severe head injuries. Ex-Tucsonian, Mrs. Lewis, Dies Word has been received of'the death of Mrs. Louella Routh Lewis. S4, at her home in Harrison, Ark., June 11. Mrs. Lewis and her husband, \Villiam Harvey Lewis, came to Tucson in the early 1930s and lived here until Mr. Lewis' death in : 1951. Mrs. Lewis was active in the Catalina Methodist and St. James Methodist churches and belonged to a number of civic organizations. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. J. M, Wagley of Harrison and Mrs. Ivan Hibbard of Oklahoma Citv; four sons.
