Program for Matrix Dinner Is Announced Lucie Lawson, Oratorical Contest Winner, to Lead First Discussion BRONZE recognition plaque on which will be in-scribed the name of the most outstanding woman in the University of Minnesota journalism department as chosen by journalism faculty has been substituted for a silver cup award. The announcement of the winner will climax the Matrix dinner to be given by Theta Sigma Phi, journalism sorority, May 12 at the Minikahda club. The reception and dinner will be followed by a program of open discussion of two campus questions.

Miss Lucie Lawson, winner last year of the Pillsbury oratorical contest and selected a representative Minnesotan, will lead the first discussion. Richard Scammon, graduate student in political science, will lead the second. Between the two discussions, Meridel LeSueur, Minneapolis writer, will discuss the influence of editorializing in newspaper columns. The plaque, which has been given by the Theta Sigma Phi alumni chapter of the Twin Cities, will establish a tradition since it will be large enough for the inscription of the names of women to be chosen within the next 10 years. The plaque will hang in the main office of the journalism department.

Its presentation will climax the dinner. Miss Dorothy Kuechenmeister, president of Theta Sigma Phi, as toastmaster, will preside at the banquet. The dinner will be without a speaker's table. The reason given by Miss Kuechenmeister is that emphasis won't be on formal speeches, but rather on general discussion. Mrs.

A. V. Woolley Will Be Honored. Tuesday Evening Minneapolis Lodge No. 16, Degree of Honor Protective association, will honor Mrs.

Anna V. Woolley, grand president of the state of Minnesota Tuesday night. Mothers of lodge members will also be honor guests. Initiatory work will be exemplified by officers of the Minneapolis Degree of Honor Girls club. Those participating in the work are: Miss Gertrude Hays, past president; Miss Dorothy Hunt, president; Miss Leona Schaffer, vice president; Miss Helen Palmen, second vice president; Miss lone Volkert, treasurer; Miss Ruth Flint, secretary; Miss Bernadette Hunt, usher; Miss Evelyn Harris, assistant usher.

Assisting the oficers will be the escort staff composed of Misses Helen Albee, Lucille Volkert, Can-dace Holloff and Mabel Monson. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Girls club which will present a one-act play, "Seven to One." gffw Northwestern Alumni Plan Annual Dinner Minneapolis alumni of Northwestern university will observe their annual candlelighting ceremony Wednesday evening at the College Women's club. This service is conducted by alumni chapters everywhere as well as by students on the campus as a pledge of loyalty to the school. A dinner will be held at 6:15 p.m. The evening's program will include a talk on Spain by Mrs.

Elva Bailey; moving pictures of Europe by Dr. and Mrs. James A. Johnson; news flashes from Northwestern university; moving pictures of the west taken by Mr. and Mrs.

Andrew N. Johnson on a recent trip; and election of officers. E. M. McConoughey is receiving reservations.

Present officers include Albert B. Austin, president; Mr. McConoughey, vice president; and Miss Catharine Hearn, secretary-treasurer. Burwell Kejcs, Minneapolis is assisting with plans for the annual spring formal party of Phi Delta fraternity at Hamline university to be held June 5 at Glenwood chalet. Mr.

and Mrs. Joseph Hut ton will chaperon the formal spring party of Phi Theta Chi fraternity at Hamline university the evening of May 23 at Forest Lake Country club. Beth El League Plans Mothers' Day Banquet Women's League of Beth El has set Tuesday evening May 12, for its Mother-Children's banquet in the vestry rooms of the Synagogue at 6 o'clock, in honor of Mothers' Day. The invocation will be given by Mrs. Benjamin Licht, the toast to the mothers by Evelyn Miller, and the toast to the daughters by Mrs.

M. J. Goldberg. Mother-daughter greetings will be presented by Maurice Goldberg. The sons will be represented by Myron Garon.

A feature of the program will be a skit, "Our Jewish Mothers' Hall of Fame," in which the following will take part: Mmes. Maurice Gordon, Meyer Cooperman, William Garvis, Samuel Bell, S. J. Barr, Harold Rosoff, M. D.

Lebedoff, and Maurice Mandel. Dance numbers will be presented by Phyllis Ben- 1 jamin and Lala Rockier. A specialty sleight-of-hand number will be offered by Sigmund Jacobs. Mrs. M.

J. Meyers is chairman of arrangements for the dinner, assisted by a committee including Mmes. Isadore Lavintman, Samuel Herman, Meyer Cooperman, Samuel Bell, Robert Greenberg, J. L. Silver, Julius Frank, Louis Rat-ner, Max Mansowitz.

Mrs. Gertrude Weinblatt is In charge of decorations. Reservations may be made with Mrs. Robert Greenberg, Hy. 2426.
