Audience Rooms, tc-The general agitation in regard to means of escape from audience rooms, such as public halls, school buildinsrs and churches, and also from hotels, in case of fire, which has followed the Newhall House disaster, has reached this city. We hope that it will not subside until every such structure has been examined and where necessary 6teps taken to insure the utmost ease of egress. If there are insufficient doors in any halls or hotels the defect should be remedied at once, and In ease there are other means of egress than those generally used and not known to the general public, placards should be posted in conspicuous places calling attention to them. Thousands of lives have been lost in audience rooms by reason of the doors opening invords instead of outwards, the crowd in a panic pressing against the doors so they could not be opened. This should be looked to.

The Turners' society already have taken the matter in hand and will have provided, before the masquerade on the 5th. an additional mode of egress by cutting a broad space through for doors on the west side of the hall aud providing convenient stairs from thence to the ground. The society is deserving of commendation for this freewill movement. tor the cells and cajie" ol the new county $52,000 have been expended on highways jmi. 1 he team liai a UiM tun- i get in this township during the past 10 years and there is not a real, first-class road with in the limits of said territory.
