Miss Ada Hungate. a late typo on the Ingalls Messenger, has accepted a position ou the Times in this city. R. D. Clampett was at Kansas City Sunday on a visit to the wholesale firm which he represents in this section.

A six months subscription will be given to the persou who brings the editor the handsomest colored Easter egg. Mrs. Etter, a milliner of Santa Fe, Kansas, is in the city to see the latest styles in millinery and dressmaking. W. II.

Roby. the genial rustler of the Topeka Daily Capital, was in the city Thursday taking notes and subscriptions. Elder X. G. Collins will preach his farewell sermon iu the Baptist church on next Sunday evening.

A number of the young people of our city gathered at the residence of Mr. E. F. Bogart last Sunday evening to call on Miss Una, who came down from Dodge Saturday afternoon to visit with her parents over Sunday. Speareville Blade.

Mr. J. H. Finlay, of the firm of Fin-lay Milton, of Dodge City, is said to be a candidate for congressional honors and to have the enthusiastic support of his people. Besides being a gentleman eminently and well qualified for the office, he is about the best located of any candidate in tbe district.

Miss Maud Pierce, of Xewton. Kansas, a niece of Mrs. J. E. Mc Adams, is in the cit and will spend the summer with the family of Mr.

McAdams. II. L. Gill, editor of the Ulysses Register, called at this office Friday to extend thanks for favors received. He was accompanied by his wife.

G. R. Cochran, formeily located at Wilbnrn. is now at Wakeeuey, where he is employed in the branch office of the Pioneer Loan Trust of this city. The annual meeting of the Southwest Kansas Conference of the M.

E. church takes place at Hutchinson to-day. Xext week we will be able to give the new appointments. Geo. F.

Jones, we learn, has resigned the office of justice of the peace of Dodge township. Frank X. Berry is circulating a petitiou to be appointed to the vacancy. J. XV.

Richardson, editor of the Santa Fe, (Kas.) Monitor, accompanied by his wife, were visitors to Dodge City Wednesday and Thursday. We acknowledge a pleasant call. A plaiu drunk, a case of assault and disorderly conduct, and two girls who were up for keeping a bawdy, house, paid their respects to Police Judge Lloyd yesterday afternoon, and paid the customary fines for such offences. The Sheriff of Wichita was on the eastbound Santa Fe train Sunday morning en route home, having in custody a horse thief named Lee Harper, whom he captured in Baca county, Colorado, between Minneapolis and Springfield. Harper is a young man about twenty-two years of age. On Wednesday while returning home from Dodge City with Mr.

Bogart was thrown out of tbe wagon, by the horses becoming frightened at tbe train while crossing the lateral just west of town, and quite severely hurt. We hope to see her able to be about again soon. Speareville Blade. Rev. W.

II. Rose preached his farewell sermon last Sunday evening. He has been tbe pastor of tbe Methodist church for one year and has proven himself a tireless, conscientious worker. Should he not be returned by the conference, he will be remembered as having done good work under tbe most adverse circumstances. In to-days paper will be found a lengthy article in answer to a statement made in ''Thoughts by the Way' in last week's issue of the Globe-Repcblicax.

We do not share in Mr. Mcln tyre's belief but since our regular contributor has seen'fit to write upon the subject of it is but just that we give space to the other side. Rev. Wright is at liberty to answer in full, after which further argument on the subject in these columns shall cease. Tbe meeting of the executive committee of the immigration bureau called to meet in thi city last Thursday was postponed until Wednesday, April 2nd.

Those of tbe committee who were present held a short session and appointed a snb-working committee to carry forward the work until tbe April meeting, when tbey expect to be in a condition to do effective work. The secretary of the society read a great deal of correspondence regarding the movement, and he feels confident that the efforts of the bureau will be crowned with success. For Rett. Hopkins, president of the immigration bureau, and E. X. Keep, both of Garden City, attended the meeting of the bureau in this city Thursday last. 31r. Hopkins is a tireless worker in this cause and will prove himself a valuable man to the society.

Xoah Hardy and R. E. Hayslett. of Jetmore, drove over on buiuess Thurs-daj and atfeude'd the meeting of tbe executive committee of the immigration bureau. They say Hodgeman county i in fine condition to fall right in line with any immigration movement, no matter how gigantic.

Dr. T. L. McCarty has returned home from Kausas City, to which place he accompanied Roy Drake last week. It will be remembered Mr.

Drake went there to have a surgical operatiou performed on himself. We are told he stood tbe operation well and will be able tore-turn home in a few weeks. ProfL. XV. Eastman, formerly of Dodge City, but now of Pueblo, was a visitor in the city this week.

Mr. Eastman says he has prospered well at Pueblo, but thinks of again taking up his residence on his farm near Speareville. The only truly sweet music. Professor, is that which issues forth from the mowing machine and harvester. Prof.

R. E. Heustis, the noted stere-opticon manipulator and musical genius, will give a series of entertainments at the Heinz building ou First avenue, commencing the latter part of this week. By the aid of hi wonderful invention, the musical combination of live instruments, and the Wonder Witch opticon. he is prepared to give a very interesting entertainment.

A banner will float from the building on each da' of entertainment. Keep an eye out for it. The. tire department was called out about half past four o'clock yesterday morning to the corner of Third avenue and Walnut street, where an unoccupied dwelling house was found to be in flames. The fire was promptly extinguished, but the inside walls aud roof were burned out before the department arrived.

The property belonged to C. E. Chipman. and the loss is estimated at about fourw fi've hundred dollars. Several tramps were seen iu the neighborhood the night before, and it is thought they fired the building.

Married. At the residence of Rev. J. M. Wright, Thursday evening, March 13th.

1890, Mr. Frank P. Wilkin of Colorado Springs, to Miss Julia A. Mauck of Corydon, Indiana. Mr.

Wilkin is an old time resident of Dodge City and was for a long time iu tbe employ of J. W. Gibbs at the Island store, and later at tbe mercantile establishment of R. M. Wright Co.

The bride formerly lived at Kinsley, where she has a host of warm friends. The happy couple departed Thursday night for Colorado Springs, where they will take up their residence. The ladies of tbe Presbyterian church are to be congratulated on tbe very interesting literary and musical entertainment giveu at their church on last Wednesday evening. Tbe solos, duets and quartettes were up to the usual standard of excellence, and tbe recitation, "Harry Conquest's by Mrs. H.

McGarry. was highly praised. "How Rubenstein played the read by Mr. L. K.

Soper, brought laughter from tbe whole audience. The gem of the evening was the original poem. "Dodge City and her people," by Mr. G. C.

Pratt. The financial part of the entertainment was also very satisfactory. Married. At the residence of the bride on Railroad avenue, Thursda evening, March 12th, 1890, by Rev. J.

M. Wright, pastor of the Presbyterian church, Mrs. Carrie R. Rath to Thomas Bainbridge. Only a few of the nearest relations and friends witnessed the ceremony, and after a quiet wedding supper the happy couple left on the Santa Fe train for Kansas City, where they will visit a week, after which they will take up their "residence in this city.

Tbe contracting parties are both well known here. Mr. Bainbridge having been in the employ of tbe Santa Fe company as engineer for several years. The bride has been a resident of Dodge City for more than fifteen years aud has many warm friends here. Personally Conducted.

Ridenour held a series of meetings at the Quail Trap last week. The Warren boys -ire talking lightning rods to the school boards in this vicinity. Mrs. Chrittou gave a carpet rag sewing party to a number of her friends last Thursday. Hiram Gilbert went to Garden City to conference last week.

His mother taught school during his absence. Mr. Conuell has lost thirteen head of cows and several head of calves this winter from some spinal disease. Bud Shemeliaaiid Henry Coy succeeded iu killing a large coyote Friday, after it bad chewed off one of their hounds ears. S.

Sullivan started his herd of cattle to Harper county last Friday. He will move to that comity iu the near future. The Free Metho'dists of Wright and this place will hold a camp meeting of two weeks duration at Pogue's Grove, commencing June 1st. Miss Lottie Haruisb, of St. Paul, Minnesota, will soon visit her cousin, Miss Cora Merrill, of this place.

She will stay during the summer. The leading speakers of Quail Trap literary met those at Belle Center last Thursday evening anil debated the ques tion: "Resolved, that prohibition is a failure and should be The Belle people won the affirmative. Farmers are busy putting in oats, and their wives are busy making garden. The Messrs and Misses Bratley took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Meairs on Saturday. Mount Pleasant Sunday school voted for Cook's quarterlies, without one dissenting vote on Sunday.

Z. P. Ball and family have arrived home after spending tbe winter iu Sedgwick and Butler counties. The pleasure loving population of Wright, tripped the light fantastic toe at the section bouse on Monday night. Mr.
