Over in Howard nil is activity, business, which hfis been somewhat "lull there as in other placet, is beginning to improve, and the merchants are proportionately elated. A stone "jug" is being constructed. It is a substantial concern, ami inmates will find it more difficult to full out of than the old shanty which has done duty for so long a time. Meetings innumerable were held, and plans many and various adopted. They would have a torch-ht procession, and music and cannon, and all that. Disappointed- Mr. Williams, who was announced to speak tt Depere last Saturday night, was unable to get there, owing to the fact ofthe steamer getting nground.und staying on the I'eshtigo bar all night. It was a disappointment both to the speaker and to those who were expecting him. The nature and time of Mr. William's engagements rendered it impossible for him to stay over hero another day consequently he was unable to speak at Depere.

Excited. An Irishman from Depere named McKinney undertook a foolish thing last Tuesday in the way of cutting down the Hag opposite the Democratic headquarters. Hut Mac was considerably catching sight of the American flag strung across the street with Seymour and Blair's name attach-ed to it, expressed himself in thiswise: name is McKinnky 1 fought six yours for the union, but never saw that glorious old flag with such a dirty tail to Mac overcome by his own eloquence mounted the para pet and was proceeding to cut down the fag and take off the "dirty tail" ai, he called it, when Aiayor Klaus "surrounded und brought him down. A lesson learned. Good.
