Wilcox of lie I'ere addressed the board upon the tiebtion of appointing a committee to represent Iirown county in the making of preparations for the proposed semi-centeiinial celebration at Milwaukee. Mr. Wilcox staled several reasons why JJrpwn county, as the oldest county in the state, should be represented at the celebration and explained the purpose of Laving a committee appointed. A resolution was adopted providing that a committee of three members, with H. F.

Hagemeister as chairman, be appointed to act iii the mutter without expense to the county. A resolution providing for the payment of the sheritl by salary instead of by fees was lost. hairman llagemeis-ter stated that such a resolution could not take ailed during the coming year and also stated that he was opposed to paying the sheritl' a salary, giving as his reason the experience of the auper-visors of Douglas county. Under the state law the salary can only apply to work done iu the county. If a salary is paid the sheriff can turn this workover his deputy who can collect feea for it, while the sherifl' does the work outside the couuty and for which he can collect lees.

The bill of Fish Warden Bissiuger was disallowed; a special committee was appointed to examine the bonds of the incoming county otlicers; the tate legislature was asked to nass a law requiring county judges to examine into all cases ofinsaue persons committed by them ami to require a bond for their maintenance whenever liability therefor was found, and other miscellaneous routine business was transacted.
