RANGERS 3, NORTH STARS 2 At New York, Doug Weight scored with 7:18 left as the Rangers extended their unbeaten streak over Minnesota to six (4-0-2). In other news: NORDS: Lindros trade urge The Quebec Nordiques players think Eric Lindros should be traded, team captain Joe Sakic, the team's scoring star, said. "That would be the answer if we could get quality players in return," Sakic told Le Journal de Montreal this week. "It's obvious Lindros is never coming here. That's how the players feel but it's not up to us.

Our job is to play and that's all." Lindros, the 18-year-old junior star drafted first by Quebec in June, has refused to sign with the Nordique.Sf BRUINS: Get Aihton The Boston Bruins, looking for scoring help, acquired Brent Ashton from the Winnipeg Jets for Petri Skriko in a trade of left wings. Ashton, joining his eighth NHL team in 13 seasons, has one goal in seven games. Skriko, an eight-year veteran, has one goal in nine games. LEAFS: Krushelnyski banned Toronto Maple Leafs center Mike Krushelnyski was suspended for four games by lhf7 NHL for deliberately swinging his stick at Detroit's Brent Fedyk during a game Friday. Krushelnyski received a match penalty for attempting to inflict injury, but Fedyk wasn't hurt.

PENGUINS: Johnson update Ailing Pittsburgh Penguins coach Bob Johnson sent his appraisal ot the Penguins' first 10 games to a fax machine at the club's offices from Colorado Springs, where he is recovering from two brain tumors. "He sai1 the first 10-game segment fs over, you're at .500, now is the time to work on self-improvement the next 10 games," interim coach Scott Bowman said. Johnson has a satellite dish and has watched most of the games. Compiled from wire The best team in hockey has rarely looked worse, but the Washington Capitals certainly looked like champions. And from the way they're playing this season, they might have the makings of just that.

Dale Hunter scored on a two-man advantage to key Washington's three-goal second period last night and Don Beaupre shut out Pittsburgh in his first start of the season as the visiting Capitals embarrassed the Stanley Cup champion Penguins, 8-0. "The puck was flying in the net for us all night," said Beaupre, back from a conditioning assignment with Baltimore. "It was one of those nights." The Penguins have had few worse nights since joining the NHL in 1967. The eight-goal margin of defeat matched the largest in franchise history at home and was the Penguins' worst home-ice shutout loss. Their only other eight-goal losses at home were 9-1 to Buffalo on April 5, 1980, and Montreal on Oct 23, 1976.

Washington tied club records for largest margin of victory in a shutout and largest winning margin in a road game. "You couldnt ask for much more," said Capitals coach Terry Murray, whose team lost to Pittsburgh, four games to one, in the Patrick Division finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs last season. "We had good intensity from the time the puck dropped." Playing at full strength for the first time this season Mario Lemieux and Paul Coffey returned from back injuries and Ron Francis has ended his holdout the Penguins lost their third in a row. In other games: NORDIQUES 7, JETS 2 At Quebec, Owen Nolan, the league's top goal-scorer, raised his output to 13 with his second three-goal performance of the season as the Nordiques ended a nine-game winless string. ISLANDERS 8, SHARKS 4 At Uniondale, N.Y., Benoit Hogue's first goal of the season at 2:43 of the third period snapped a 44 tie and sparked New York to its first win in seven games.
