Woten worked as drug store apprentice In Adams, Nebraska for ten months, playing semi-professional baseball on the side. He was assistant cashier or ono year at the State Bank of Adams, where his duties Included building fires and sweeping floors. For the brief period of two weeks, Woten was clerk at the First National Bank of Buchanan County. St. Joseph.

Missouri, and then, failing to obtain a coveted position in Omaha National Bank, Woten home to Nebraska and husked corn for hla father. He then worked two months as clerk in the accounting dspartment of the Burlington Railroad, Omaha. Woten then worked for Haikins and an accounting firm, and was also acting cashier for tho Federal Reserve Bank, San Francisco, and later vice-president of the Fimt National Bank of Hanford, Kings County.
