Trapped men saved NEW ORLEANS (AP) Five men trapped beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico in a capsized oil rig were found alive Monday by divers, saved by pockets of air caught inside their small living chambers. Divers continued probing the compartments for a sixth man, in hopes he had found a four- foot air bubble like the others. The first man out, Derrell John Dore of Delcambre, was pulled to safety about 22 hours after the rig tipped over and plunged the crew's quar- ters into the Gulf.

He was put into a decompression chamber for two hours. The other four remained be- neath the surface because no other decompression units were available, the Coast Guard said. A spokesman said he had no details on conditions of the men. i a described as mandatory because the men had spent so long at a great depth, although officials on shore were not told exactly how far down the men had been. Removal without' decompression would cause the bends, a painful and sometimes fatal condition caused by nitrogen bubbles in a spokesman said.

He said the problem with de- compression complicated the procedure of getting the men to a hospital, since they could not be taken up in helicopters with- out even longer periods in a de- compression chamber. School seeks suit dismissal A motion to dismiss a sui against the Jefferson Cit board of Education was filec Monday in U.S. District Court by the board's attorney, Robert Hawkins Jr. The suit was filed May 8 on behalf of Terry Jennings, a fir st-grade pupil at Thorpe (Gordon Elementary School. Joe Nichols superinten dent of schools, and Robert director of transpor for the schools, are also named as defendants in the which states the boy is being deprived of his con stitutional rights to an elemen tary education because the school bus stops almost a mile from his home.

The Jennings family resides near Tebbetts, in Callaway County, about 17 miles from the school. The bus stops at the intersection of county roads 256 and 255 about nine-tenths of a mile from the Jennings' home In the motion to dismiss, Hawkins states that the federal court has no jurisdiction in the matter, because there is no section in the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing the right to an elementary education. Hawkins says the family does not have a federal issue, and seems to ignore a state law requiring pupils to go to pick-up points in accordance with statutes providing for free bus transportation.
