Union JUNCTION, THURSDAT. JULY 3, 1S62. O- The Citv Drug Store has just received from Leavenworth 'a large addition to its stock of Drnes and Chemicals. noticed a number of families going to the Solomon after claims recently. That county is sealing tip rapidly Fall Wheat is now being harvested.

The crop is a good one. Spring "Wheat will not turn out so well. Land "Warrants. Hall, at the City Drug Store, lias received a number of Land "Warrants, which "he now offers for sale at the lowest cash price. Junction is improving rapidly.

New houses are going up. A 6pt of enterprise has seized upon the people and its results are perceptible all around us. Emigration is beginning to pour into "Western Kansas. The benefits of the Homestead Act nre alread being felt in this portion of the State. Come on, emigrants, and home-seekers, this is the best country in the West.

UThc cattle and other stock in this county nre getting excessively fit. There is no better stock laising country in the world than Kansas. In this branch of industry is a mine of inex-liaustible wealth. Our farmers are becoming aware of this fact and arc acting accordingly. A Bittlp.

Pij.l. Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony, of the Seventh Kansas Regiment, better known ns "Jennison's Jayhawkers," is now Provost Marshal of Memphis. It is pretty certain, if antecedents are anything, that the chivalry within his jurisdiction will toe the mark. tmm have always regarded Kansas editors 'l ns perfect paragons of honesty and virtue but the revelations being made by the Topeka pa er3 arc shaking our faith terribly. If they continue much longer, we may, for our good r.ame, quit the perfession." Don't Suit.

Captain Stewart don't suit the nabobs at Fort Riley. For the same reason that old Butler don't suit them at New Orleans. Then, too, he has a company of men that don't take sugar-coated secesli, consequently they are perfectly howid." Keep your ears open, boys. Doubtful 'nint no word for that place. Lwt.

The confederate prisoners at Firt Riley were started for Fort Leavenworth, under an escort of twenty men, last Tuesday morning. "Wc hop'-, hereafter, they may be kept in their places, and that none will be found so mean as 'to do them icvercncc. Taking pleasure rides with them, and other acknowledgements of equality, is piling it on rather titick. CArruKxn. Our fellow-citizen," W.

W. Herbert, wc arc led to believe was the South Carolina Colonel captured by our arm- at Fair Oaks. He was a bold, honorable and outsioken enemy, for which reason wc can hardly say that we wish him any harm. Hut he had a partner, who played Union man around here until late last fall, when he sneaked off and entered the Southern army, of horn we ha no compunction in wishing that daylight ma shine through him, if it has not already. r1 4 ffJtYc received a call from Lieutenant Tnovr-uon, of the regular army, the other day.

Not withstanding his decidedly unmilitary trim he only hal two crutches, accoutrements not pro ided for by Scott or Hardee he presented quite a soldieily appearance, and from his past history we believe him to be as substantial as he is good looking. He was on Fremont's staff in Missouri last summer, and also on General Lane's, and has seen much sen ice. A broken leg has kept him -confined for some lime, but we hope ere long to 6CC him on duty again. Notice. The legal voters of School District No.

The Ux bill went through both Houses on the 23d with a whirl, and thus the most important bill of the session onlj lacks the signature of the President to become a law. The bill as passed, stands precisely as the Senate amended it, except in sixteen particulars, the Uommittee on Conference agreeing that the House should recede from its 253 other amendments. The House and Senate found it utterly impossibe to agree on tho tax on rectified spirits, the House wanting a very high, and the Senate a verv low tax.

and so they compromised by levying no tax at all on that article Garrett Davis protested against this feature, nnd complained that it gave a chance to Cincinnati dealers to drive out pure Bourbon whisky, by underselling with drugged articles manufactured from the rectified spirits. Senator Sherman protested allowing a drawback on the export of manufactured cotton, and against giving up the direct tax feature, but would not indulge in opposition now as that would tend to defeat the bill. The Senate passed it unanimously. In the House objection was made to receding from the direct tax, and one member wanted to insist on that and put on the Senate the responsibility of defeating so important a bill, through fear of direct taxation. That would do very well to punish the Senate, said Thad.

Stevens, but meantime how would the poor country get along without means of raising revenue. There were in all, 315 amendments to the tax bill. The House having receded from 253, and the Senate from 16 of them, the remainder became a subject of compromise, as embodied in the joint resolution of the Committee of Conference, adopted by the Senate, hiie in the House the following named members voted against it: Allen, of 111; Browne, of Rhode Island; Johnson, Norton, Nugent, Pendleton, Shiel, Stiles, White of Ohio Wyckliffe and Wood. The bill only awails the President's signature to become a law, and is to take effect the 1st of August. Ihe Commissioner of Internal lteycnuc is to receiye a salary of 84,000 per annum.

Some efforts were made in the House to stave off an immediate vote, but they failed nnd the bill was agreed upon by the Committee of Conference, passed, Ben Wade and ten others only voting against it. iXcto Stftocrtiscmcnts.
