Mont Tuesday, November 25, 1952 Distributive Education Helena Guard Unit Legislators Want First Half County Tax Bill Due in Just Two and One-Half Days Capital City News Program Explained To Business Women Helena high school students explained the distributive education program conducted by Helena businessmen recently during a meeting of the Helena Business and Professional Women's club in the1 Montana club rathskeller. They were members of the Helena chapter, Distributive Education Club of America. Introduced by Fred Robinson, club sponsor, they were Caroline Wertz, moderator, Margaret Reardon, Delores Woods, Eileen Wolfe, Susan Chase, Eugene Mack and Arlene Rodocay. In a panel discussion, they told how they were graded in their part-time jobs by 28 Helena merchants participating in the program.

Other club activities were explained. Bill Jones of the high school showed a film, "Education Is Your Business" and Dorothy Green presented two violin solos accompanied by Carrie D. Keil. Marie Heiken was program chairman. She was assisted by Avis Crandall, Mary Lou Wallace, Mary Condon, Dorothy Green, Mrs.

Main Phone 3847 for i Tops All Others In Target Matches A Helena national guard unit, the 3369th ordnance maintenance company, topped all other units of the state guard in the 1952 national guard indoor pistol and rifle match, Brig. Gen. S. H. Mitchell, Montana adjutant general, was informed today.

The chief of the national guard bureau in Washington, D. said the company's score of 1,715 was high for Montana and ranked tenth nationally. Team members, all from Helena, and their scores, were: Chief Warrant Officer Thomas F. Tillman, 357; Lt. John T.

Liston, 350; Sgt. Robert F. Morgan, 344; Sgt. 1C Paul Nichwan-der, 332, and Sgt. Edward J.

Hol-shue, 332. Each team member will get a bronze medal. Individual high scorer among Montana guardsmen was Lt Robert N. Pewonka of Malta. Sgt.

1C Milton A. Coty, of Helena was second high. Sgt William Ryan Home After 13 Months in japan Sgt William Ryan of Helena returned home Wednesday from 13 months duty with U. S. army in Japan.

Ryan received his honorable discharge after nearly two years in the army. While in Japan he was on duty at the Omiya army hospital. Ryan said he plans to continue his college work that he left off when he entered the army in December, 1950. Police Are Advised Man Being Held For Montana Check A man being held by Redding, police is believed to have burglarized at least one establishment in Montana on basis of ma terial in his possession, Helena police were advised today. The man had in his possession at the time of arrest several bottles of liquor of various types bear ing Montana tax stamps, a Colt automatic, field glasses, fishing rods, radio, tobacco and cigaret lighter.

The dispatch asked especially for a check of Clyde Park as they believed some of the goods may have been taken from that com munity. "WHEN I SAY COFFEE Houses During Time of Session Montana legislators are sending requests for housing to the Helena Chamber of Commerce, according to Ashley C. Roberts, secretary-manager. People who have a house, apartment or room and would like to rent to a legislator for the months of January, February and first weeks in March are asked to contact the chamber. Many of the legislators wish to bring their families to Helena with them, therefore there is a large demand for houses and apartments.

The phone number of the chamber is 37; 'Messiah' Practices Start Tonight at Methodist Church Practice for "The Messiah" will start tonight at St Paul's Methodist church. The orchestra section will start practice at 7:15 o'clock with the chorus rehearsals to start at 7:30 o'clock. Roland J. Troyer will direct "The Messiah," which will be presented by the Helena chapter of the American Guild of Organists at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Dec 14 at the Civic Center. Jefferson School Sixth Graders Make Tour Of Public Library Sixth graders from the Jefferson school made a thorough tour of the Helena public library recently in observance of national book week.

Accompanied by their teacher, Tom Lombard, members of the class heard the library explained by Librarian Mabel T. Miller. She told them the library, established in 1870, is the oldest in the state. She said its shelves now contain 75,000 volumes in addition to hundreds of newspapers and magazines. Mrs.

Miller explained the library's filing system and told the students how to use it. Following a tour of all sections of the library, the students were given library cards. They later "browsed" in the Susan Eaker book shop. It is estimated that the coal reserves of Europe are about 700 billion tons, those of America 7.7 trillion tons and those of Asia, 2.5 trillion tons.
