Rev. John Acton Memorial services will be held Sept. 5 for the Rev. John Acton, an Episcopal clergyman for almost a half-century and former director of the Memorial Church of St. Paul in Overbrook.

Acton died Friday at age 78. Born in Philadelphia, Acton was a graduate of Penn State and the Virginia Theological Seminary. He formerly served as dean of the West Philadelphia Convocation of the Episcopal Diocese. He became a curate of St. John's Church in Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., shortly after graduating from the seminary.

In 1940, he was appointed rector of St. Andrew's Church, College Park, Md. In 1956, he became rector of the Memorial Church of St. Paul in Overbrook, where he remained until his retirement in 1975. Acton, who lived in Overbrook for 19 years, was a member of the Union League and the Merion Cricket Club.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice his daughter, Natalie Hower; his son, John his brother, Harry Acton; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at noon Sept. 5 at St. Martha's Church, Bethany Beach, Del. Memorial contributions may be sent to St.

Love, Mother, Dad, family Church, Bethany Beach, Del. 19930. Harold Kelleher Harold Kelleher, a Phillies pitcher in the 1930s and a retired Philadelphia police officer, died Sunday.

He was 76 and -lived in Logan before retiring to Avalon, N.J., about 13 years ago. Kelleher was born and raised in the Fairmount section and later moved to Logan with his wife, the former Agnes Gallagher, whom he married in 1937. The Phillies signed Kelleher in 1934, and he made his big league debut in Cincinnati in 1935, beating the Reds, 1-0. He retired from baseball in 1940 to join the police department. He was stationed at the 24th and Wolf streets station in South Philadelphia.

He retired in 1964. Kelleher, who was a district supervisor of the Police Athletic League for six years, also worked as an athletic trainer for La Salle University. He later went to work for Provident Mutual Insurance retiring in 1976. Kelleher is survived by his wife, Agnes; his daughter, Beth McCrearey; and four grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
