Bottom-line TV executives measure "huge successes" by ratings, and the World Cup ratings are a midsummer dream for ABC The 10 games on ABC have averaged 4.7 (one rating point equals 942,000 homes).

The World Cup has outdrawn golf and tennis. Loren Mathews, ESPN's senior" vice president for programming, is as delighted as O'Hara with the World Cup's showing.
