-era jester Ish Kabibble, 86 Associated Press JOSHUA TREE, Calif. Ish Kabibble, whose goofy humor enlivened Kay Kyser's orchestra for two decades during the Big Band era, has died at 86. Kabibble, whose real name was Merwyn Bogue, died of respiratory failure Sunday after suffering from pulmonary disease and emphysema. Bogue joined Kyser's band in 1931. He took his stage name from one of his silly songs, combed his hair over his forehead and was introduced as "the guy with the low-cut bangs and the high-kicking In 1949-50, Bogue was a regular on "Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge" a TV quiz show in which Kyser wore a cap and gown and Ish Kabibble played dumb.

He mixed musicianship with pure silliness. Actor dies Barry Sullivan, who appeared in more than 30 films including a starring role in the 1949 version of "The Great Gatsby," has died of respiratory failure at the age of 81, his daughter, Jenny, said yesterday. WADE Swint was taken into custody 1:45 a.m. Sunday. He had earlier obtained cocaine and heroin from Withers, then tried to sell 6.6 pounds of heroin to an undercover agent posing as a dealer on May 2.

His detention hearing is tomorrow. Two years ago, two Pakastani traffickers tried to sell the nearly 99 pounds of heroin to FBI undercover agents for $2 million. But last week, the FBI estimated the value of the heroin, and nearly nine pounds of cocaine, at $200 million, if the drugs were diluted for sale on the street. The attorney of one of the Pakastani defendants yesterday joked about the ex-FBI agent stealing evidence in his case. "Unfortunately, he didn't take enough drugs," said attorney Stephen should have been a more efficient thief." DOPE Continued from Page 3 potential to reshape U.S.

relations with other countries, refocus drug treatment needs, increase health-care costs for addicts and aggravate the spread of AIDS as the infected share needles or sell their bodies to buy more, officials say. U.S. drug czar Lee Brown cautioned that heroin use is not an epidemic yet. But he acknowledged that "heroin has the potential to make a deadly comeback." Brown is on a trip to six heroinproducing areas in Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, to meet with government and police officials to discuss ways to stop the drug flow to this country.
