Proceedings of the Board of County Commissioners. Board of county commissioners met in regular session at 9 o'clock, a. Tuesday, November 14th, 1916. All members present. Report of A.

C. Everitt, Chairman. County Clerk. Board of county commissioners met regular session at 9 o'clock, Monday, November 20th, 1916. All members present.

CONTRACT This contract entered into this 20th day of November, A. 1916, by and between The -Spooner Highway Con struction Company, of Joplin, party of the first part, and John Beit zinger, Clarence Cover, and W. H. Braden, Commissioners of Crawford County, Kansas, parties of the second part. Witnesseth, that whereas, The Spooner Highway Construction Company are makers and builders of roads and are desirous to build one and one-half miles of gravel road situated in Crawford County, described as follows: Beginning at the northeast corner of section 21, township 28, range 25, thence running south one and one-half miles to the northeast corner of the southeast quarter of section 28, township 29, range 25, in Crawford County, Kansas, and Whereas, the County Commissioners are desirous of having said road built.

it is hereby agreed between the parties as follows: That the said Spooner Highway Construction Company agrees to take out the creek beds of Cox Creek, nine hundred (900) cubic yards of gravel and spread same at a depth of six (6) inches in the center of the road and tapering to a width or eight (8) feet on each side of said center of said center of road, and agrees to spread and roll said gravel to a hard surface doing said work under the supervision of said County Commissioners or their authorized agent. In consideration of said work, said County Commissioners agree to pay the Baid Spooner Highway Construction Company, the sum of six hundred dol lars per mile for the hauling, spreading, and rolling of nine hundred (900) cubic yards of gravel per mile, said total contract embracing one and one-half miles, and said Spooner Highway Construction Company agrees to haul 1,350 cubic yards on said one and one-half miles of road, for which the County Commissioners agree to pay upon completion and acceptance of the work the full sum of nine hundred dollars said work is to begin on or before November 27th, 1916, and is to be pushed to completion as rapidly as the elements will permit. It being understood and agreed that the County Commissioners are to prepare the roadway for hard surfacing. It is further understood that the County Commissioners reserve the right to inspect or have an inspector on said work if they so desire and said work is to be done under their supervision. Braden. Accompanied by the contract, was an agreement, signed by J. Luther provid ing for the payment of one hundred and fifty dollars to apply on cost of said road, leaving total cost of mile. He also agrees to furnish gravel for said improvement, free of cost to the board of county commissioners. Application having been made to the County Superintendent of Public Instruction, for the transfer of certain land from School District No.

79 to School District No. 62, an appeal from the action of the County Superintendent signed by John Kelly, a representative of School District No. 62, came up for hearing. Representatives of both school districts were present at said hearing. After taking the testimony of both sides in the controversy, and after consulting with the County Superintendent, the board decid to detach the north east quarter of the southeast quarter of section 34, township 30, range 24, from School District No.

79 and attach the same to School District No. 62. Board adjourned. John Beitzinger, Chas. C.

County Clerk. Board of county commissionern met in regular session at 9 o'clock, a. Monday, November 27th, 1916. All the members were present. Dog tax assessed to George James, of Mulberry, cancelled on account of er roneous assessment.

An affidavit was filed in the office of the county clerk, that an error had been made by the deputy assessor on the assessed valuation of certain lots, hereinafter described, in Acme Subdi vision of east half of southwest quarter 21-30-25. Complying with same the board made the following changes: Lot No. 1, from $300 to $900. 4, 5, 6, 8 ii 1 of lot' No. $300 to $400.

$500 to $300. $850 to $550. $750 to $400. $1150 to $800. $875 to $400.

10, from $150 to $325. 1 of lot No. 10, from $150 to $800. Lot No. 11, from $150 to $400.

All the members were present. A. R. Lake was appointed treasurer of Bauer Township, to fill vacancy caused by the death of S. P.

Judd. John Butler was appointed trustee of Grant Township to fill vacancy caused by the death of W. J. Kavanagh. Board adjourned.

All members present. Bills were allowed as published heretofore. Bond of A. R. Lake, township treasurer of Baker Township, appointed to fill vacancy caused by the death of S.P.

Judd, approved. An application was received from the Kansas Gas Electric Co. asking permission to construct, maintain and operate an electric power line on and along the public highway of Crawford County, Kansas, as follows: Beginning at the northeast corner of section twenty-three (23), township twenty-nine (29), range twenty-four (24), thence west along the north side of said section, a distance of one mile to the northwest corner of s.aid section 23, thence south along the west side of said section a distance of one half mile to the town of Ringo. Permission granted with the stipulation, that the poles carrying these wires shall be set within 3 feet of the property line, and the wires at all public highway crossings shall be at the height of not less than 30 feet from the top of the ground. Board adjourned.
