Fort Oiiater. The Chicago Times gives the following data upon authority of Col. Sheridan: Gen. Buel has 100 mechanics at work and expects 100 more. His three companies of infantry are misting in the building operations.

Two hundred cottonwood logs had been cut for projected buildings and the survey had been made. Gen. Buel is determined to preserve the timher in the vicinity of the post, apd has accordingly forbidden the cutting of logs within a radius of eight miles. The Lodge poles left by the Sioux when they fled so precipitately after the tight with Caster, are beiiig utilized in the construction of barracks. He expects to have quarters ready for twelve companies by the middle of October.

Heece having been called to minister to the wounded soldiers of Gibbon's command asks the indulgence of his patients. All orders left at Weir Pope's drug store will be promptly attended to by Dr. Bui- lard during his absence. ARMS Secretary Mills writes as follows from Deer Lodge under date of August 1-1: Howard with 310 men started after Joseph yesterday. Also 50 of the Deer Lodge escort.

Stuart's and Clark's companies struck across from the Big Hole to Bannack as soon as Gibbon reached them. I think men have also gone from Flat and Butte to-day. Norwood's company was also ordered to Bannstck but the courier missed him, but Gen. Gibbon would meet him soon after. I advised Hickinan of the movements this evening and asked him to stand in.

Two companies of regulars, are now six miles below Deer Lodge, and have been ordered to Baunack by forced marches. I think that there will be 25 men here from Bear today. I sent two wagons of hospital stores to Flench Gulch to day and they will be there by daylight to-morrow. I don't believe that the hostiles can get away from the force that is now in pursuit as they have 3,000 horses and many wounded. This thing will oil be over in a week, but they may get out on the stage road flist, or break up into small parties.

He accompanied th escort train up the Big Hole valley to with in fifteen miles of the battle field, wher they met General Gibbon with his wound ed, and taking the General in his buggy returned with him to Deer Lodge. All th wounded were found to be getting along very well, and Drs.

Mitchell, Steele, Reece and soon dressed the vvoumts aud made them as comfortable a possible. Tlu-y were then placed in am buliiucea and spring wagons, and, as wil be seen by our dispatch, they arrived there yesterday, one day behind General Gibbon But one officer, three soldiers and one citi zen are considered to be severely wounded GL-nenil Howard, with his cuvalrv uiu fifty of General Gibbon's command unde: Captain Uawn, left the Big Hole for Horsi Prairie on Monday morning. Twentv vol unteers from Deer Lodge, twenty frou Butte, and ten from Dewey's Flat, Beaver head county, followed after Howard nnd would probably operate with him. Oue of General Gibbon's officers counte eighty one ludian bodies on the field, the Indians having concealed many under the banks of the creek and covered others with willows. This shows that the fighi must have been a desperate one, and tha General Gibbon's command can proudh claim to be the heroes ot the greatest Indian battle--with oue exception--since 1865.
