But authorities said they still had no leads to possible suspects or even a motive in the slaying of Frank For-lini, 43, of E. Rose Tree Road in Upper Providence Township, near Media.

Forlini, according to Chris Roberts, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Crime Commission, had associated with known mob figures and "was a kind of strong-arm. He had a reputation of being an enforcer." Forlini also used the name Forline. A Frank "J.R." Forline was one of 13 unindicted co-conspirators named in a February 1981 federal indictment of the top figures in Philadelphia's crime family. An FBI spokesman said today the agency was investigating "the whole thing because of his reputed organized crime connections." Forlini, co-owner of Action Supply Co. of Sharon Hill, was found by a passer-by at 12:30 p.m.

Saturday slumped in the front seat of a pickup truck parked at the Mart department store in Marple Township, police said. He had been shot once in the head, once in the neck and three times in the chest, according to the county medical examiner's office. The man told a store security guard he thought the occupant of the red and white pickup truck was sick. The guard then called the police, who forced open one of the truck's locked doors. The truck, which police said Forlini usually drove, belongs to Action Supply Co.

Police said yesterday that they were investigating a number of theories in connection with the death, including the possibility that the killing was the idea of someone other than the gunman.
