Kahana said that in return for a promise of $15,000 from Alan Vaisberg, he set the deli on fire. He was seriously burned. He was arrested in Hawaii at the end of 1983 and has been held on $1 million bail since that time. At the trial, Alan admitted lying to the grand Jury because he said he was afraid Kahane would retaliate against him. He said Kahane had been extorting money from his jewelry business.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Walter Batty the judge said one reason he did not give Alan Vaisberg a jail sentence was that the three had been found not guilty of mail fraud. Another factor, Judge Lord said, was that Alan was so slightly built he might well be raped if sent to prison. Five-Day Forecast Today: Partly sunny and warm with a thunderstorm this afternoon.
