Puma TC, 4:49.54. TENNIS By TED SILARY 1 Daily News Sports Writer When Rob Kerrigan threw to Joe Ker-" rigan Friday, night, it was not just another friendly game of catch between nephew and uncle. The scene was the Vet, the audience included general manager Murray Cook and pitching coach Larry Bear-narth of the Montreal Expos, and the prize was a job. Joe Kerrigan, the Expos' bullpen coach, arranged the tryout, which took place in the bullpen before a 2-1 loss to the Phillies. Rob did so well that the Expos signed him, and he leaves tomorrow to start life as a pro with Bradenton (Fla.) of the Gulf Coast Rookie League "My uncle got me the chance and I did fabulous," said Rob, who starred at Archbishop Wood and this past season -went 9-1 with a 1.89 ERA for Bucks County Community College.

"It felt funny, having my uncle involved, but he couldn't do anything for me except catch the ball. I tried to block everything out and pretend I was throwing to someone else." Kerrigan.a righthander, possessed a great curve in. high school, but scouts judged his fastball was not up to pro standards. Kerrigan said he has improved, his heater from 81 to 83 or 84 mph. "My coach at Bucks, Lou Pacchiola, is a great believer in throwing a weighted ball," Kerrigan said; "I was on a program where you start" throwing a 5-ounce ball and then raise the weight by an ounce every two weeks.

I credit that for my improved fastball." Kerrigan set one-season records at Bucks for wins, complete games (nine) and strikeouts (93 in 73 innings). "There wasn't really anyone around to scout me this year," he said. "I wasn't upset by that. I wasn't panicking. There were scouts all over last year and I didn't get near to anything out of it.

If I had to, I was ready to go back to Bucks and prove myself again." Instead, he is going to what baseball people acknowledge is the best of the rookie leagues. "This (pro balll is what I've always wanted," Kerrigan said. Baseball The latest discussions between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees again have been unproductive, causing Tom Seaver to say he is "never real optimistic" about going to the Yankees. Seaver wants to be closer to his home in Greenwich, Conn. The Chicago Tribune reported the Yankees have gotten cold feet on a Seaver-for-reliever Brian Fisher deal.

The New York Daily News said the Boston Red Sox are interested in Seaver and will offer outfielder Tony Armas. Phillies rejects have been finding a home with, of all teams, the Yankees. First reliever Al Holland; now shortstop Ivan DeJesus. Shortstop Bobby Meacham was optioned to Columbus of he International League and his replacement was DeJesus, who signed with Columbus after spending spring training with the Montreal Expos. DeJesus earlier played with the Dodgers, Cubs, Phillies and Cardinals.

The Chicago Cubs placed center-fielder Bob Dernier (strained rotator cuff) on the 15-day disabled list and nullified their outfielder- "We hope the students develop racket skills and have a positive experience with tennis. If they don't continue playing now, when they're maybe 40 they may go back and play."
