C. Heyman) R. S. Trumbull's View on the Demonstration Farm R. 3.

Trumbull, agricultural agent for the El Paso Southwestern, at the request of the county agent made a trip to Deming last Tuesday to confer with members of the farm bureau relative to taking the initial steps of starting 8 demonstration farm in Luna county. Mr. Trumbull foels that if the institution is purely a county affair it is apt to have a very short life. This has been the history of other county demonstration farms. So he advises that if one is started that it be connected up with the State College or the U.

S. department of agriculture. He believes that a demonstration farm whith is properly managed and kept out of politics will be of considerable value to the agricultural interests of the county. On leaving Mr. Trumbull assured the county agent and members of the executive committee that he would co-operate any way he could to help work out this project.

Farm Bureau Proceedings The chief item for discussion by the executive committee of the farm bureau on Wednesday morning was that of a county demonstration farm. The discussion on the matter was interesting from the beginning and the opinion of the committee was uanimous in favor of such an institution. The subject was introduced by F. L. Nordhaus, the originator of the idea of a demonstration 1 farm.

Mr. Nordhaus arrived at his conclusions on the matter by recent surveys through the county and to the farms in interest of machinery and belting. The inferior installations of pumping machinery impressed him to the extent that he thought the farm bureau ought to draw up specifications for those who plan to install such equipment so that such disastrous blunders as have been made in the past may not be repeated. He believes that if the newcomer is carefully guided in the expenditure of his money, both by instruction and by having the privilege of visiting the demonstration farm which is laid out along the best practices of farm management, and where he may study at first hand the cultural methods and the exact cost of producing the various crops that grow well in the county, he will get information that is of inestimable value. Mr.

Holiday, Mr. Ramsey and Mr. Case, other members of the committee, concurred also in this belief. The committee therefore instructed County Agent Heyman to take the matter with the State College and the ET. department of agriculture in order to work out some feasible plan to put such a farm into operation in this county.

The incorporation of the farm bureau under the recent state law was also discussed, but no action was taken. Further information is to be secured on this matter and final action may not be taken until the annual meeting. The reports for the last three months of County Agent Heyman's work were read and approved by the committee, and Mr. Heyman was commended for his activities. The committee on oil leases also reported, and it has just about completed the final shaping of a lease which it is believed will be entirely satisfactory to the land owner and fair to, both parties of the contract.

A special meeting of the executive committee will be called soon to pass on the oil lease so that further delay may not hinder those who wish to take advantage of this lease. ROPER ISSUES WARNING Commissioner of Internal Revenue Roper has issued a warning to the public against dealers in Liberty and Victory Bonds who advertise themselves as "Government Licensed Brokers." The fact that a broker has paid the special tax imposed on all brokers under the revenue act of 1918 does not mean that the government guarantees his honesty or assumes any responsibility for the legitimacy of his methods, Mr. Roper warns.
