He served as pastor at Caledonia Circuit, Vaiden-West Circuit, Wesley Methodist Church in Tupelo, MS, Marks Methodist Church, luka Methodist Church, St. Paul Methodist Church, Clarksdale, MS, Leland United Methodist Church, New Albany First United Methodist Church, Indianola United Methodist Church, Amory First United Methodist Church and transferred to the Mississippi Conference in 1979 and was appointed to Summit United Methodist Church.

He retired from active pastorate in 1985 and moved to his present home in McComb, MS. He served on the following Board and Agencies: Board of Evangelism, Conference Board of Temperance, Chairman, Board of Education, Vice-Chairman and later Chairman, Town and Country Commission, Family Life Commission, Chairman, Board of Trustees Methodist Home Hospital, New Orleans, Trustee Milsaps College, Secretary of Board, Who's Who in the Methodist Church. Rev. McCafferty served in the USMR, March 1942-October 1945, USNR Chaplain's Corp, 1956-1976, and was the recipient of Freedom Foundation's George Washington Honor Medal for sermon. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Martha Blanche McCafferty, and Adele Young, brother, Daniel Ewing.

Morton, Mrs. Higginbotham was a native of was a long time resident with her late husband, Newt Franklin. They owned and operated Franklin's Grocery and Market there for many years. She and her husband of 36 years, Charles L. Higginbotham, were also residents of Pascagoula for 36 years, where she was a member of First Baptist Church, before recently moving to Long Beach.

Mrs. Higginbotham was preceded in death by her first husband, N.F. "Newt" Franklin; daughter, Ramona Franklin Williams; step son, Paul Higginbotham; parents, Jake and Edna Sessums; brothers, George, Vance, Tillman, Edward and Lauris Sessums; and sister, Nannie Bell Dunn. Space Law Center gets new director Special to The Clarion-Ledger OXFORD An international legal authority has been named director of the National Remote Sensing and Space Law Center at the University of Mississippi School of Law. A national search identified Joanne Gabrynowicz of the University of North Dakota to lead the center, which was established last year.

Internationally renowned in remote sensing and space law, Gabrynowicz graduated from the Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University. She spent the past 13 years at UND, where she was a professor in the Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, teaching upper-level graduate courses in space policy and international implications, space treaties and legislation, remote sensing law and policy and the philosophy of human space activities. She also taught at two air bases, where her students were Air Force bomber, tanker, missile crew and space command officers. ADAMS 352-3632 In her new post, Gabrynowiez said she intends to focus her work to "ensure that the center becomes a resource for industry and academia to address legal questions regarding remote sensing and related technology particularly, questions related to commercial remote sensing, as well as public-good issues, including licensing private industry, archiving for the long term, changing data into information products, etc." In addition to traditional teaching and research, the center also will sponsor campus events and international Internet seminars.

The center's first international event is April 18-19, 2002, titled "The 1st International Conference on the State of Remote Sensing Law." The Internet seminar "U.S. Commercial Remote Sensing Licenses: The First 10 Years of Practice" also is slated for spring, with the date to be announced. "I'm very excited about these programs," Gabrynowicz said.
