and Mrs. Fred Norcross made a business trip to Oakland Monday, returning Tuesday. On their way they met with a minor accident. When Norcross turned ou the highway near Livarmore to avoid hitting a bos a machine behind him struck his car, completely turning It around. No ono was hurt.

Forty Jailed In Merced During Hectic Night TXflfERCED, Nov. 1V1 property owners stormed the offices of the sheriff and the chief of police bore yesterday demanding that action be taken to punish those-who destroyed property, rang church bells and made the night hideous on Hallowe'en. About forty children, ranging in age from 7 to 17, were taken to th county jail and incarcerated for about a half-hour on Hallowe'en night for their de- pradations. Grundel and a third shipment will go out this week. This -wfll make a total ol five tons valued at more than $2,500 gathered from ten acres of young trees.

The largest yield was eight sacks from one tree. Grundel also has five acres just coming; Into bearing, making 15 acres, one of the largest walnut orchards In the Oakdale section. 802 Books and Magazines Circulated During October, Report Shows DELHI, Nov. to the monthly report of Mrs. Matt Williams, custodian of the local branch library, the circulation continues to grow with the advent of winter weather.

The circulation during the month of October amounted to 802 books and magazines, with 14 new borrowers added to the list. A consignment ot new books has just been put on the shelves. D. Skinner. Shiloh Girl Wins Club Essay Contest SHILOH, Nov. Inez Locarnini won first honors in tee essay contest sponsored by the 4H Sewing clubs. Her essay, which was on "Clothing," was printed in tbe Farm Bureau magazine.

There were 213 cars of grapes for the month and 43 cars of condensed m'lfc with lighter shipments of 13 cars of beans and 4 cars of Egyptian corn. No lire- stock was sent out. There are about 80 cars of grapes yet to so provided tbe weather does not interfere.

About 200 tons of local fricght was handled during October which is considerable over the average monthly average about 75 tons. MODESTO CHORUS TO GIVE RIPON CONCERT Program to Be Given November 8 at High School H1PON, Nov. Hipoa Grammar School Teachers' club has made arrangements to have the Modesto Male Glee club, with a chorus of forty voices, give a program at the -High school auditorium on Tuesday eveing, November 8.
