Jl (ormation and reservations by IfARY YANEY Pheasant Run Theatre's current offering is the Chicago area premiere of Romantic Comedy by Bernard Slade.

The play's title not only describes the form of entertainment, but also gives a clue to the plot as the two main characters write romantic comedies for a living. The first act reveals successful playwright Jason Carmichael (played by Gerry Becker) searching for a new writing partner. On the day he marries a lovely young socialite, he acquires the new collaborator in the person of a young, adoring female English teacher, Linda Kimbrough. She is absolutely marvelous as the "klutzy" Phoebe Craddock. who is as loveable as she is awkward and ungainly.

The audience immediately senses the chemistry working between this unlikely couple, and then follows them through 13 years of successful collaboration and a relationship of love and friendship. WHAT IS THE 1979, but has not enjoyed the success ot Bernard Slade's Broadway debut hit, "Same' Time Next Year," which later starred Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn on film. Romantic Comedy appears every bit as entertaining, maybe even more so, as the dialogue is outstanding. There is a similarity between the two plays as each traces a love and friendship relationship between a man and woman through several years.

Besides the wonderful acting of Ms. Kimbrough and the excellent job done by Gerry Becker as the self-centered, but loveable writer, the cast includes Gerald Castillo, who is very believable as Phoebe's understanding journalist husband. Sheila Keenen's appearances as the witty theatrical agent makes us wish her part were larger. Kathleen Melvin appears in early scenes as Jason's elegant wife and reappears later briefly as the hilarious Hollywoodite. Kate Mallory.

All are accomplished performers who have played a variety of roles in the Chicago area. The multi-talented Tom Alderman directs this, his eighth production at Pheasant Run. Romantic Comedy is good, light-hearted theater. It is playing at Pheasant Run which is located on Rte. 64 near St.
