Still climbing the charts is "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" by Freddy Fender. The song was first cut by Fender himself on Imperial in I960, when Fats Domino and Ricky Nelson were Imperial's slars. i "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell, originally released early in 1974 by the composer, Larry Weiss, on Twentieth Century. The record-made top ten on the Easy Listening charts.

On down to the lower end of the top 40 we find "What a Difference a Day Makes" by Esther Phillips. The song was recorded in 1937 by Bing Crosby, Vaughn Monroe, and was revived in 1959 by Dinah Washington. Esther is no newcomer herself, having several rhythm and blues hits in 1950 and 1951, i i "Double Crossing Blues" and "The Deacon Moves In." She also had a soulful rendition of "Release Me" in 1962. HIGH ON WCUM's playlist for some time and now starting to break nationwide is "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" by Willie Nelson on Columbia. The tune, written by the late Fred Rose, was recorded in 1947 by Gene Autry, the Sons of the Pioneers.
