Weather Report doesn't disappoint, it's one of this year's best, and it is as integrated in terms of musical idioms, intentions and influences, as it is in nationalities. Much is done in the area of tone-coloring, that is, using both the orthodox and unorthodox musical potentialities of each instrument. Even though most of the music is spontaneous, the experimentation never supersedes the unity of the music. And when it's in the hands of virtuosi like this, you've got quite a combination.
