Concordia's Chuck Olson intercepted three passes and his teammates recovered two fumbles Saturday, earning a 12-9 triumph over St. John's in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game. The Cobbers gained only 10 yards rushing and 77 total offense to the Johnnies' 198 total yardage, but kept St.

John's from a consistent offensive surge by alert defensive play. The key play came when Olson intercepted a St. John's pass and raced 19 yards to score the touchdown that gave Concordia it's first lead at 12-7, in the third quarter. St. John's crept to 12-9 when Concordia punter Lor-en Knutson purposely stepped out of the end zone with 1 y2 minutes to play, giving the Johnnies two points but allowing the Cobbers a free kick from the 20 instead of punting from inside their own end zone.

The Johnnies took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter when Bill Laliberte returned a punt 45 yards and Mike Collins kicked the conversion. Concordia pulled to 7-6 on a 15-yard scoring pass from Paul Linde to Larry Gullick-son. Concordia now ranks 2-0 in the MIAC and 3-0 over-all. St. John's is 1-1 in the MIAC and 1-2 over-all.
