Jones would like to crack the 110-meter high hurdle world outdoor record of 13.2 and win the Gold Medal in the 1964 Olympic Games.

Jones cleared his last obstacle in indoor track last Saturday in Louisville at the Mason-Dixon Games when he won his 41st consecutive indoor hurdle race to break the old record of 40 straight held by Harrison Dillard. The Detroit schoolteacher's last Indoor defeat came in March of 1959 when the now retired Lee Calhoun edged him in the Knights of Columbus meet at Cleveland NOW THAT he's passed Dillard's mark, Jones says, "I Just want to see how far I can go He was no specific goal but adds, "I should be able to hit 70 If I keep going like I am right now." But Jones' outdoor goals are much more specific and he'll go into special training for an assault on the world outdoor record after the indoor seasons ends in March Jones was a 5-8, 145 pounds in high school. He's not much bigger now 5-10 and 165 pounds. He has a great initial burst of speed which has enabled to break all the world records In the shorter Indoor events but he hasn't had the stamina to crack the 110-meter mark of 13 2 held jointly by Calhoun and Germany's Martin Laurer. Jones, whose best time has been 13.4, won't run in many meets this summer but instead will spend his time running practice quarter-miles to build up his stamina.

He'd like to crack the record In the National AAU meet in St. Louts this June. INDOOR MARKS he already holds are eight seconds flat In the 70-yard highs, .05.9 in the 60 and :05 9 in the 50-yard highs. He shares the record of :05.3 with Cal- nuun in ine a-yara eveni. Jones finished third behind Calhoun and Chicago's Wil- lie May in the 1960 Olympics but hopes to win the Gold Medal In 1964 before retiring from outdoor track.
