Dr. Fager, meanwhile, has finished first every time out and bis only defeat was by disqualification in the Jersey Derby. To Dr. Fager's disadvantage, he has raced only a half-dozen times in '67. Perhaps Damascus and Dr.

Fager (and Buckpasser, too) will meet in the $100,000 added Woodward Stakes at Aqueduct Sept. 30. If they do not meet and nothing out of the ordinary happens to swing the vote, the title will most likely go to Damascus, off of his longer list of important victories. That is who I would vote for right now. I am not sure Damascus is the better horse but surely the more deserving.

BEST 3-YEAR-OLD FILLY: Gamely could well be the present leader of an erratic crop at the moment. Yet Gamely does not have so great a lead that she cannot be superceded by something else in the division that gets hot in the next two months. The thing is that there doesn't seem to be a 3-year-old filly capable of holding good form for very long this season. BEST 2-YEAR-OLD COLT: T.V.
