PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS THURSDAY, JULY 13, 1972 I I I VA If I i I i -j" 4' -i i I if -cc zrr-. was found empty, Henry reappeared on the scene. He flew directly to 546 Gilham st. and settled on the shoulder of blonde, blue-eyed Jackie. AND NOT ONLY THAT, but for the past 2 weeks Henry has been making a nightly appearance on Gilham st.

Every night between 6:30 and 7 Henry arrives to entertain the neighbors. Some of them swear he even answers to his name. So last night promptly at 6:30, the Daily News arrived on the scene. We waited until 7:20 but Henry didn't make an appearance. So we left.

Well, as these things generally happen, Henry appeared as soon as we left. Fortunately we had called the office before we left the area and were told to get right back there. SURE ENOUGH, when we returned there was Henry perched on the index finger of Jackie Atkins. He even stayed long enough to pose for pictures, although he made several flights around our heads as if to check us out. Apparently we checked out because the butterfly made a landing on the shoulder of Adams.

Believe me, Boss, I will never doubt a city editor again. Yours Truly, Jack McGuire Dear Boss: I couldn't believe the whole thing. There I was diligently reading a newspaper when the night city editor disturbed my reverie. "Get Joey Adams and go to Lawncrest and get pictures and a story about Henry, the trained butterfly," he said. "A trained what?" I said.

"Butterfly," he answered. Now I have been in this business a long time and I've covered a lot of things but this one had to take the cake. I didn't argue with my exalted leader but I did give him a look of incredulity. SO PHOTOGRAPHER JOEY ADAMS and I drove up to 546 Gilham st. and inquired about Henry, the trained butterfly.

Boss, the story these people told us was unbelievablebut the strange thing was we both believed it. It seems Jacqueline Atkins, 10, who lives at 516 Gilham st. and loves animals of all kinds, had this pet caterpillar, named Henry. Jackie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Bill Atkins. He is a Philadelphia policeman. Now as caterpillars will, Henry soon snuggled himself into a cocoon and shortly thereafter turned into a butterfly. Well, most caterpillars that do the metamorphosis bit are never heard from again. But not Henry.

Fischer, who held up the first game for 35 minutes yesterday because he objected to its being filmed on closed-circuit television, said he would not show up for today's game with world champion Boris Spassky of Russia unless all the TV cameras were removed from the hall. One U. S. chess source said Fischer was unlikely to change his mind. "You can talk to Fischer when he is winning but not when he has lost," the source said.
