4 PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1971 Joni Sounds Fine Where Others odd Falter On Record By Rich Aregood A v. but her singing about it gives you the same feeling about invasion of privacy no matter how well she does it. Then, in the cosmic ways record companies move, there's a new James Taylor record, "One Man Dog" (Warner It's nice, it's relaxed and some good people worked on it. It also builds slowly to a good second side where Mitchell sounds beautiful. All that is in preparation for talking about her new "For the Roses" (Asylum), a con-, cept album about love and an unnamed "rock 'n' roll man." As usual with Mitchell Albums, everything is impeccable.

The artwork's even beautiful. So's the music. My only cavil is the subject matter. Joni's psyche is a lot more interesting than John Lennon's, Joni Mitchell is a talent who stands far above anybody who might be considered competition. Her voice and the way she makes artistry of vocal techniques that would sound like trickery coming from anyone else is magnificent.

She can overcome occasional rough spots in her own lyrics with it. Most other singers would sound stupid in places after a less-than-exciting first half. The record's good enough. Just don't expect "Sweet Baby James." "A Meeting of the Times" (Atlantic) links Rahsaan Roland Kirk with Al Hibbler. It's gorgeous.

The younger, experimental jazzman provides beautiful multi-instrumental work behind the older singer. It's the kind of record that's a must if you want to see how closely related seemingly di MMHsm aaaaaaaaaaaai aaaaaaaaaaaaaaai asaai aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasaaaiaaiiiaiat i CHANCES ARE YOU WILL WANT verse musical styles actually benefit and she knocks you -out. Maybe it's an indication of why the election went the way it did that she begains "Happy Days are Here Again" for a group of presumed Democrats and they don't go bananas. This is one even Streisand-haters can like. "Windmills" (AIM) is from Rick Roberts, who's related to all those quiet California rockers.

It's a nice, laid-back album, featuring some fine sidemen. It makes a guy feel guilty for saying rotten things about Jane Getz (Mother Hen) after the lovely job she does singing harmony behind Roberts. are. With Kirk, they can be related in the same solo. 'Foxtrot' (Charisma) by Genesis and "Last Autumn's "Dream" (Vertigo) by Jade Warrior are a couple of good sleepers.

Genesis still has trouble putting songs together, but they play and sing beautifully. Jade Warrior simply has a record that's much better than anything else they've done. "Windmill in a Jet Filled Sky" (Brown Bag) is from John Hambrick, who does an excellent job of country-style singing of his own solid tunes. "Live Concert at the Forum" (Columbia) shows just how good Barbra Streisand can be. It's a McGovern TO SEE IT An Adventure Film made with an Exhilarating Sense of Physical Danger.
