"I knew coming in against this team that we'd need to win the doubles and probably third singles," Cumberland coach Jim Breech said. "I'm not disappointed.

We had a great year, we had a great run, and we were a lot closer against Ocean than people expected us to be." A strong South Jersey contender in recent years, Cumberland loses six varsity players to graduation. But Breech isn't worried. Dawson actually scored her 100th goal in Tuesday's 164 win over Pennsauken, but a mix-up in the record books left the milestone unnoticed until Thursday. Cherokee junior Kaitlyn Cu-neo put a damper on the celebration by scoring the next two goals to tie the game at 33. Eastern moved ahead 6-5 by halftime with goals by Banta, Erica Evangelisti and Alana Vi-volo. The Cherokee goals came from Robinson and senior Amy Coles. In the beginning of the second half, Eastern expanded its lead to 8-5 when Miller and Dawson scored their second goals apiece.

Just when it seemed as if the Vikings were pulling away, Cu-neo scored her third goal for Cherokee and teammates Megan Curran and Hye Won Lee scored the next two to tie it at 8-8. Eastern again regained the lead on Dawson's third goal with nine minutes remaining, but Curran tied the game for Cherokee for the sixth and final time, 9-9. The two squads fought for the ball for nearly six minutes until Banta came up with the game-winner. While the Hawks' second doubles team was tying the match 2-2, a shoulder injury was limiting Bridgeman's serve and he was nearing exhaustion. He also was trailing 5-2 to Dayton's Chase Freundlich in the third set Buoyed by a vocal cheering section, Bridgeman battled back to 5-3. But facing Freundlich's serve, Bridgeman didn't have the legs to take control of points. On match point, Freundlich dropped a soft volley over the net and Bridgeman, coming from the baseline, could only watch it bounce away.

Dayton claimed the title, winning third singles 64, 63. "The kids left it all on the court today," Haddon Township coach Lorie Dickinson-Foster said. "I'm so proud of the way the kids played. They're great kids, and they're great sports." Dayton led 2-1 after the quick matches were through, winning at first and second singles in straight sets. Haddon Township took second doubles easily.
