IN MEMORIAM MORONI, Nicholas S. Happy 24th Birthday Nicky No candles, no presents, just fond memories of birthdays gone by. Not a day goes by that i don't miss you. Your proud Grandmom. MORONI, Nicholas S.

Happy Birthday, Nick! We miss your bright smile and contagious laugh. Not a day goes by that you are not in our thoughts and prayers. You will never be forgotten. With All Our Love, "The MORONI, Nicholas S. Sep.

18, 1980 June 5, 2003 As long as there is time, As long as there is love, As long as I have breath to speak your name, I will love you forever, Nick. Missing you even more, on your 24th Birthday, Son. Donald Gardner, wrote popular Christmas song Mr. BOSTON Songwriter Donald 1 Yetter Gardner, who wrote the international children's favorite "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth," has died. Mr.

Gardner died at a Brockton hospital on Wednesday of complications from an operation after falling at his Needham home, said his son, Richard Yoder Gardner. He was 91. Mr. Gardner wrote the song in 1947 while teaching music at the Smithtown, N.Y., public schools. He was filling in for his wife, teaching a class of gradeschoolers, during the holiday season.

He asked the class what they wanted for Christmas, and when they hissed and lisped their answers, he noticed that almost all of them had at least one front tooth missing, his son said. That was all the inspiration he needed. The song has been recorded dozens of times by artists that cut across musical genres, including Spike Jones, George Strait and Mariah Carey. Mr. Gardner's favorite version was recorded by Nat King Cole, because of its jazz feel, said another son, Jerry Yoder Gardner.

Mr. Gardner embraced the fame that the song brought him, but his talents went beyond one song. He played a myriad of instruments, wrote church music, directed church choirs, and produced several community choruses and community musical events. "Pops used to say that he retired every Jan. 1, then came back every Dec.

1," Richard Gardner said. "The song became a very important part of his identity." He became music editor for publisher Ginn Co. and composed songs that appeared in the company's music textbooks. Mr. Gardner was born in Portland, and graduated from West Chester University in 1936.

The university later recognized him as an outstanding alumnus. He is survived by his wife of and former college sweetheart, Doris Yoder Gardsons Richard of Needham, Jerry of New Smyrna Beach, and David Yoder Gardner of Peachtree City, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 23 at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. Doris Gardner has requested that everyone sing "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth" at the conclusion of the service, Jerry Gardner said.

Mary Elaine Gennoy, 53, medical marijuana activist SAN FRANCISCO Mary Elaine Gennoy, a San Francisco resident who used a diminutive body shaped by birth defects to become a passionate medical marijuana activist, died Sept. 5. She was 53. Ms. Gennoy died after suffering complications from throat surgery she had undergone for cancer of the larynx, said Dennis Peron, a neighbor and friend who co-sponsored the California law allowing qualified patients to use medical marijuana.

During the 1996 campaign to pass Proposition 215, Ms. Gennoy who stood just 4 feet 6 inches tall and weighed less than 70 pounds gathered signatures to put the measure on the ballot and later served as a spokeswoman for the cause, Peron said. Her small size resulted from the radiation treatment her mother underwent for cancer while pregnant. Ms. Gennoy also was born without forearm bones and with other physical disabilities that included useless thumbs.

She also had hearing and intestinal problems. She spent much of her life recovering from surgeries and serious illnesses, and as a teenager discovered that marijuana eased her chronic discomfort. Harvey Wheeler, 85, co-authored 'Fail Safe' CARPINTERIA, Calif. Harvey Wheeler, a scholar and the co-author of a 1962 best selling novel about an accidental nuclear war, died Sept. 6.

He was 85. Mr. Wheeler, whose research and writing reflected his concern about the future of humanity, died at his home of complications of cancer, Linda Kauffman, a family friend, said Friday. Though primarily a writer of nonfiction, Mr. Wheeler was coauthor with Eugene Burdick of the novel Fail-Safe about an accidental nuclear attack on Russia.

Wheeler's books include The Conservative Crisis, Democracy in a Revolutionary Era, and The Virtual Library. Courier-Post wire services 1.
