Ellen joined several other cancer survivors 21 years ago and founded the Conquer Cancer Committee to the American Cancer Society, Camden County Chapter, whose purpose was to raise funds for cancer research and education.

She was a Reach to Recovery volunteer served as coordinator for Camden County for 10 years of the Reach to Recovery Program. In 1995 she was awarded Louise Lasser Volunteer of the Year award from the State Chapter of the Reach to Cancer Society for her work that program. Ellen was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and served on its first music committee and more recently in the Care and Share Shop.
