Their rags-to-riches story gins in those coffee shops, where in relatively short order, the duo joined forces with local musicians Gillingham, Matt Malley on bass, and Steve Bowman on drums. They soon recorded a demo. Counting Crows were signed to DGC records in X992, and almost immediately began performing with rock legends. They opened for Bob Dylan before their debut album, August and Everything After (DGC) was even recorded.
