And what better way to do that then to capture the first state title in the program's history. On Saturday, the Indians defeated Bridgewater-Raritan 3-0 in the Group 4 state championship at The College of New Jersey. "We said we wanted to make history," senior Jen Pfeiffer said. "We made it and it's awesome." In the program's history, the Indians reached two other state finals, in 2000 and 1998, but this is their first victory. "We knew this was our year," senior Lindsey Walsh said.

"We worked so hard, harder than ever and we knew we were going to come out and do it." After a scoreless first half, it was Walsh who started the scoring 3:28 into second half when she took a shot from 25 yards out after getting tackled with the ball and recovering quickly. "It was such a hard tackle I thought the ball was going to fly and I got up and it was just right in front of me and I just ripped it," Walsh said. And wherever the ball was Saturday, there was Walsh, even when the other two goals were scored. With 22:21 left in the game, Walsh sent the ball to teammate Jill Hampton, who put it in the net. Then, a little more than a minute later, Walsh assisted Devon Betsch's goal her second of the season after her first came in the team's first game of the season.

"Every game she pulls in and just carries the team, she just does," Pfeiffer said of Walsh. "A goal to start it off and then two assists, you can't ask for anything more." And Indians coach Kevin Meder agreed. "It's so fitting for her to get that first goal to get us on the board," Meder said. "She's been everywhere, she's put this team on her back as many times as her and the other captains and the rest of the seniors." "It's awesome because they fell back and on the first play we got a corner." And after the last play, the Indians were champions. "It's very exciting," Walsh said. At 4-5, Philadelphia has a chance to notch back-to-back victories and even its record, both for the first time this season. However, they'll need to resist overlooking the league's worst team.

"I don't think it's hard when (the Eagles players) see the tape," Reid said. "(Miami's) games are so close. Even though they came up a little bit short, they are playing like crazy. Bowl hopes alive with Rutgers win By CELESTE E. WHITTAKER Courier-Post Staff PISCATAWAY Don't be fooled. This was a big game. There was no primetime start and the only national TV coverage was on ESPN's Game Plan. The two teams were unranked and it was a Saturday after-n game at Rutgers Stadium.

While the Scarlet Knights' blowout win over Army last week gave them their sixth win of the season, with four other Big East teams already bowl-eligible as well and with the league guaranteed five bowl bids, you can't take anything for granted.

The 20-16 "Senior Day" win Saturday over Pittsburgh all but assured Rutgers of making its third straight bowl appearance, which is a solid achievement. "To sum it up, offensively, we never really got into a flow at all," Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said. "On the flip side, it was one of the more gutsy defensive performances I've ever been a part of." Rutgers, which had four turnovers and nine penalties for a loss of 60 yards, shot itself in the foot time and time again on Saturday at least on offense. But the defense came up with several huge plays, including one which sealed the win. The Panthers drove all the way to the Rutgers 6-yard line in the closing seconds alter a 28-yard pass from Pat Bostick to Darrell Strong.
