The convention will bo held In San Bernardino, with tbe Eighth district ol tho congress as hostess, assisted by tho local A. workers in tlio convention city. The main sessions will be hold in the civic auditorium and wl bo devoted to reports, addresses by national authorities oa child welfare, and conferences on various phases of Parent-Teacher work.

Tho convention will begin with a meeting the state board on Tuesday, May 25, and tho formal opening will take place on Wednesday morning. Miss Alma Einzel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will deliver two lectures, nud Will etato s'uperln tendent of schools will be tho only other speaker, escept the members of the Parent-Teacher organization. Music will be a feature session, and a special matinee given by the West Coast Theaters, and an auto rldo through the orange groves and to the Mission Inn for tea will be among tho events provided for the delegates. A special train will leave San Francisco connecting with all districts. A large number of delegates are expected at the convention on account of tho election officers to serve for the coming two years.

Important revisions to the constitution will engage the attention of tho delegates. Electa Chapter To Have Dancing Party on Tuesday -Electa Chapter O. B. S. will hold a short business meeting at the Masonic Temple Tuesday evening.

HEARTLB and daughter of Pacific Grove, came to Modosto Saturday to visit relatives here. Mr. Hear Ho returned to the Grovo Sunday, Mrs. Hoartlo remaining for a few weeks. Sho waa formerly Mabel Keeley, and spent her childhood days here.

Sho is a niece of H. C. W. C. Kooloy.

F. BOYD and Mary Hill, old neighbors lu linrllugton, Iowa, of the Joseph Harris family at 302 II street, spent several days with them last week. The J. The concert given by the Aahmes Temple band of Oakland at the high school auditorium, Merced, Saturday evening, wag one of the best over given in that city.

Fully 1000 were in attendance. After tho concert was over all proceeded to tbe gym- aasium where dancing was enjoyed until tho hours of the early morning. Music for this was furnished by a six-piece orchestra from Oakland. Sunday morning a special train was chartered by tho members of tho Merced County Shrine Club under whose auspices tho whole.affair had been arranged, to take the nobles and their friends over the old road as the first train left over the now road Sunday morning also. The new road had to be built as the old track ran where the now being built.

The run was made in good time and upon arrival at the site a concert was given by the Aahmes band for the benefit of the employes of the Bent Brothers, who have the construction the dam contract. Oakland Girl's Engagement Of Interest Here The engagement, has been announced of Miss Evelyn Eloise Woodland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Woodland of Oakland, and Mr.

Peter Western Gerhardt of San Francisco. The news of tho engagement was told in cards sent by tbe bride-elect to her friends. Miss Woodland is a graduate of Miss Burko's school and after completing her studies she 6pent a year in Europe. Mr. Gerhardt is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. R. C. Gerhardt. No plans have been made for his marriage, but the event will probably be an event of nest autumn.

The part of Mother Church was taken by Ora Louise McHenry, who impressed her hearers with her dignity, charm and sincerity. A pretty dance was very gracefully given by little Miss Evelyn Thompson, who appeared recently in the Elks' show A Charleston dance by Earl Graham, the "baby sheik," was a big hit. Both are pupils of Elsa Tolin Gilson.

Many pretty presents and flowers were received by them from their numerous friends as thoy are highly respected and loved by all. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Elmier Yordy and son, Lynn, Mr. and Mrs.
