COURIER-POST, Sunday, July 14, 1991 2F She's real double for sister 'It was fun to be queen for a day. I even had my own Leslie Hamilton Gearren recent visit to Gearren's home when she went to the IGA Supermarket on Route 38 and asked to buy beer, something you can do in California supermarkets. A friend of Gearren's spotted Hamilton, and thinking she was Gearren, wondered why her friend would be asking for beer. "That was the one and only time anyone thought she was me," Gearren explains. More frequent are the other "Linda Hamilton" sightings.

"People don't believe me when I say I'm her twin," Gearren says wearily. "They either think I'm impersonating Linda Hamilton, or I am her. "I have to tell them, 'If I were Linda Hamilton, would I be at the Burlington Center with three kids in Continued from Page 1 Gearren has the same sinewy build her sister accomplished only after months of punishing daily workouts. (Gearren politely begs off exercise; it is enough, she says, to lift three children all day.) Schwarzenegger couldn't distinguish between the sisters offscreen, either. When Gearren arrived on location, he insisted she was Hamilton, an incident Hamilton has gleefully described during promotion tours.

"Moments of embarrassment are so rare for Arnold," Hamilton told the Washington Post. "So I have to glory in it." But Gearren was terrified, and it didn't help when she and her sister endured 30-degree temperatures inside a warehouse during filming and were hosed down to look as if they were sweating. "That was the coldest place I've ever been in my life," Gearren recalls. "But I could not have been treated better. It was fun to be queen for day.

I even had my own trailer." Gearren did not need the monot- ony of moviemaking to ground her in reality, however. "She's the practical one," Hamilton has said of her sister, who is six minutes younger. "She's got the kids and the nice house in the suburbs." Both twins dabbled in children's theater in their hometown of Salisbury, where their father was a doctor. "It was like a gimmick," Hamilton has said. "Let's get the Hamilton twins." But Linda got serious about theater while studying marine biology in college, and eventually followed a boyfriend to New York.

Gearren decided to become a nurse, like her grandmother. She too followed a boyfriend, but to South Jersey, where she lived in both Moorestown and Hainesport. "Leave your hometown and follow a man anywhere, that's us," Gearren says wryly. While Hamilton studied acting with Lee Strasberg and made her professional debut in the soap "Search for Tomorrow," Gearren went to nursing school and took a job at Cooper Hospital. "I was a theater major for a while," she says.

"But then my more practical nature took over. I thought of all those struggling actors. I wanted more guarantees. "I'm not the risk-taker Linda is. She's always been set on acting; I don't remember her ever wanting to be anything else." 1 Neither sister has always been lucky in love.

Hamilton's husband left her soon after the birth of her 20-month-old son, Dalton. Gearren divorced her first husband, father of Ashley and Adam, then met Jack Gearren on a blind date three years ago. Leslie Gearren doesn't place much stock in the psychic connection between twins, but she claims Linda is her best friend. They talk on the phone daily and see each other often.
