May. state trrasurr. Saturday announced that he will be a candidate for election as state tax collector, subjec to the will of the voters In the August 7 Democratic primaries. The Brandon businessman and political figure Is the third person to enter the race for state tax collector. He cannot under the law succeed himself as state treasurer.

Others In the race are Mrs. Thomas L. Bailey, Incumbent, who seeks re-election for a second term, and C. W. Pitts, a former state highway patrolman.

Both Mrs. Bailey and ruts are residents of Meridian. Mr. May qualified with the secretary of state under the corrupt practices act Friday, and also filed an affidavit as a non-subversive. He Is a native of Brandon In Rankin county, and attended high school there, later craduatlng from Mississippi State College.

The new candidate for tax collector Is a veteran of World War frrvlng four years, two of which were In the European Theater with the Third Army. He participated In five campaigns. He is a member of the Methodist church and the American Legion at Brandon.
