8A GL COURIER-POST, Wednesday, August 16, 1995 Local Roundup Board, contractor to discuss money owed on work lying face-down on the sidewalk in the 800 block of Hunter Street, Camden on Aug. 25, 1993. He had been shot in the chest. Police at the time said robbery was the motive for the shooting. Collins was scheduled to be arraigned today on the murder charge before Superior Court Criminal Assignment Judge Isaiah Steinberg.

He is being held in Camden County Jail. Courier-Post staff the minor items would be about $2,000, not the $12,000 the school board specified, said a source for the contractor. And a fault like the sidewalk scrape could have been caused while moving furniture, the source said. "Our field forces left the site Jan. 13; the items were noted during a walk-through March 15," he said.

School board attorney JoAnn A. Laughlin said, "I don't comment on pending litigation." Courier-Post Staff SOUTH HARRISON Arbitration is expected to resume sometime in September on money still owed the general contractor for an addition to the South Harrison Elementary School. The hearing will take place sometime next month in the school, so participants can see first-hand any work in question. Two previous days of hearings took place in the all-purpose room, a major part of the addition vendors. Most of the money in question has been paid, but the rest $40,000 is under arbitration.

Part of the remaining amount is $12,000 for 48 "punch-list" items the board contends were not satisfactorily completed. The items include work such as touching up the paint on several door frames, removing paint from bricks over a door, caulking a fixture and repairing a scrape on the sidewalk. The total cost of taking care of that has been in use since January. The board of education and Torchio Brothers of Vineland have been in litigation since last October, when the contractor filed a lawsuit for withheld payments exceeding $183,000. At issue in the lawsuit was the board's refusal to accept faxed copies, instead of original release forms, from subcontractors and Council OKs agreement on silt removal, disposal MOORESTOWN The council authorized an agreement with the state to remove silt from Strawbridge Lake and dump it in tidelands along the Delaware River in Palmyra.

The resolution, unanimously passed Monday, authorized the agreement with the Tidelands Resource Council reached last May. However, the state Department of Environmental Protection said the township's ordeal is not over. A DEP spokeswoman said the township has to obtain at least three permits to allow the dumping of the silt. The DEP has until Sept. 9 to make a decision on the permits before Moorestown can begin dredging.

And after the agreement leaves Moorestown, it must be signed by the DEP commissioner, the attorney general and Gov. Whitman. The Palmyra site is state-owned property. Moorestown's lake sediment is not hazardous, said the DEP spokeswoman. mm? TODAY THROUGH AUGUST 22UD! mi Fa mm.

Laurel horse barn MOUNT LAUREL A three-alarm fire destroyed a horse barn at Weiland Farms on Mount Laurel-Moorestown Road early Tuesday. A township firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion and released from Memorial Hospital of Burlington County, Mount Holly. Two of 12 horses at the farm had to be pulled from the burning barn, but none was injured, said Mount Laurel Fire Chief William Dukes. The blaze was discovered shortly after midnight by township police on routine patrol.

Two officers ran to the 2V4-story barn and removed the two horses. Firefighters from the township's three fire companies brought the blaze under control in about 50 minutes, but not before the barn and its contents had been destroyed, Dukes said. The cause remained under investigation. mm Soft icBtr--d fori cvcrnetWork MJ Sffaffi1! BSSS' of coils i' Jar. feci.
