With the Pulitzer prize pwarda scheduled a short time, Broadway ends another theatrical season that Is chiefly distinguished by the success of foreign performer.

Never have the theaters within the vicinity of Time square reported so many triumphs of imported stars, chief of whom is Elisabeth Bergner. Along with Katharine Cornell this Hungarian actress was unanimously proclaimed In the Associated Press poll of dramatic critics as giving the best performance of the season. Miss Cornell, who shared honors with the silent, elusive Miss Berg-ner, is a Buffalo, N. girl, although she was born in Germany during a visit of her parents to Europe. Furthering this foreign motif, the most highly primed actor of the year was Pierre Fresmay.

His brilliant performance in "Noah" won him the vote of every critic except one, and the vote he missed was from a reviewer who did not see him in that role. Three Imported acting troupes were given high praise during the pant season. The D'Oyly Carte Opera company, playing a repertoire of Gilbert Sullivan, proved an outstanding hit and played several weeks over their scheduled time. The Irish Players, with Barry Fitzgerald winning most of the critical plaudits, had a long run. Even the Russian speaking cast of the Moscow Art Theater players were, artistically speaking, success-j ful.
