COURIER-POST, Sunday, December 8, 1985 13F HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS Florence nips Burlington Township, takes crown Green, 17 carries for 95 yards, ran the inaly ard for the score. A high snaplef ruined theextra-point try, but Burlington Township cut the halftime lead to 12-6, setting up the dramatic last two quarters. "This is the greatest feeling, said an elated Muchowski. No one can ever take this away from us. standing performances from linebackers Jeff Korinko and Kevin Sitzler, plus end Mike Donahue and tackle Ken Holmes.

While Korinko and company were putting the Falcon offense on hold, the Florence offense struck again before halftime. This time Earl Scott's five-yard TD run capped a 56-yard drive that was aided by a roughing-the-kicker penalty. Holmes, who doubles as the Florence punter, was hit after a punt from his own 35-yard Line. The holding them would have been better than taking a shot at overtime." Frappolli agreed "I talked about that situation4 with my staff before the game, he said. "If I was in Tim's position, I would have gone for the win.

There is noquestion in my mind what we would have done. Before the finishing heroics, Florence took the upper hand behind the passing of Muchowski, who made good on 15 of 21 passing attempts for 188 yards. The Flashes, who never trailed, gained the lead on their first possession. Florence moved 58 yards in nine plays. Muchowski hit on four of six passes for 33 yards, including the final 12 for the touchdown to Steve Hovart.

A high snap foiled the extra-point try and Florence was on top 6-0 with 7:31 left in the opening quarter. Meanwhile, the Burlington Township offense could not seem to get itself untracked. Much of the credit goes to the Florence defense, which got out roughing penalty gave the Flashes a first down at midfield. Muchowski hit three of his next four passes for 45 yards before Scott ran for the touchdown. A two-point passing attempt from Muchowski to Scott was short, leaving the Flashes up, 12-0.

Burlington Township answered with its only scoring drive of the first half. Three Florence penalties one for roughing, a second for pass interference and a third for offsides helped the Falcons keep the march alive. Ti 1 II "l- Jfcl 1 rM ENCLOSED. LATCHING DRAWER fA 1 JC2 wnu DURACELL ALKALINE BATTERIES By SAM IANNUZ21 Of the Courier-Post FLORENCE Steve Muchowski threw for two touchdowns and kicked the only successful extra point to give Florence High School's football team the margin of victory in a 19-18 win over Burlington Township in the South Jersey Group 1 championship game yesterday. I'm just so happy for these said Florence coach Joe Frappolli, who coached the school's baseball team to the state championship last June. "Right no there is no place better in the world than Florence High School." Burlington Township, which missed a potential game-winning two-point conversion attempt in the last five minutes, might not agree with Frappolli. The Falcons matched Florence with three touchdowns, but could not convert a single extra-point attempt.

Muchowski's conversion kick followed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Troy Scott with 2:43 left in the third quarter. The TD pass completed a 67-yard, five-play drive that featured Muchowski. After running six yards on second-and-nine from the Florence 34, thejuniorsignal-callercompletedfour straight passes for 60 yards, the final one for the score. His conversion kick gave the Flashes a 19-6 advantage that seemed secure. But a Larry Addari's 36-yard touchdown run with 4:54 left in the game capped a 12-point Falcon scoring run Rich Green's one-yard touchdown was the other score that left Florence ahead by a single point.

Tim Dillon, the usually reliable Burlington Township kicker, was the victim of two bad snaps on two earlier extra-point misses. This time, Burlington Township coach Tim Hadden opted to go for two points and the lead rather than a chance at sending the game into overtime. Running back Jerome Bledsoe was stopped on the attempt by safety Kevin Ingham, preserving the Florence lead. "Kevin has stopped that wide play all year," said Frappolli, whose team finished 10-1. "He has saved about three ball games by stopping that one play." Hadden said there was good reason to go for the lead rather than the tie.

"The way our defense was playing, I thought it would be better to try to take the lead and let them protect it," explained Hadden, after his team fell to 8-2-1, including a victory over Florence during the regular season. "I thought it (the two-point try) was the best thing to do.
