Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Ad-ams-Nowell Funeral Home with burial in Enon Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. -3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Mabus, a lifelong Ackerman resident, was a memler of Ackerman Presbyterian Church. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1917 and the U.S. Military Academy of West Point in 1920. He served in the Mississippi Senate from 19152-36 and, at the time of ihis death, was the state's oldest former senator.

He was the widower of Adelle Mooreland Mabus. "He was a heroic figure to me. When I was little, my parents lived Wxt door to him," said his nephew, former Gov. Ray Mabus of Jackson. "He gave me good advice all of my life." Leslie Mabus, who also was a timber farmer, became the first in family to enter politics.

He iserved as a delegate for Franklin D. Roosevelt at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in '1932. Among the other delegates Mississippi: now-lst District :U.S. Rep. Jamie Whitten.

Born when President Grover was in the White House, Leslie Mabus "lived an amazingly long and full life," Ray Mabus said. 18 and Sept. 22 that no one by the name of Beckwith had been treated at the hospital. Four other Jackson hospitals contacted on both occasions by The Clarion-Ledger said Beckwith had not been treated there. She said she didn't know of the hospitalization until she received his letter.
