Hume says ITT story gives insight on politics, money Daily Leader, Pontiac, 111. Page 5 Apr. 6, '72 Supper Table Talk Faces charge William Stock Timmv Dnnahpe 20. 147. ByJOHNPLESKO Leader Staff prominent figure in the ITT investigation, said in Bioomington last night that the ITT story was important for the insight-it gives the public on the relationship of politics and money in Washington.

Hume predicted that Kleindiest would eventually be approved as attorney general because of Senate tradition to grant cabinet requests. He said ITT would not be required to divest itself of any additional properties as a result of the investigation. Hume is an assistant to Washington columnist Jack Anderson who first broke the story involving the, ITT and a $400,000 pledge to the Republican convention in return for an alleged favorable settlement on an anti-trust case against ITT. The more ITT officials say the more they perjure themselves, Hume said. "The case has become a hopelessly tangled web of lies." In contrast he pointed out that he submitted to a lie detector test to substantiate his statements, Hume stated that even if there was "no deal" with ITT, the already donated the GOP convention is a violation of law.

"If the press was doing what it should in Washington, stones like this would be published every day," Hume Hume attributed the ITT affair in to the "indescribable secrecy mania" Accident A Pontiac woman was involved in an accident on West Madison St. at 1:18 p.m. yesterday. According to State Police, a car driven by Bert R. Teeslmk, 35, East Peoria, was westbound on Madison when a seeonclcar, driven by Mabel L.

Steinbach, 63, 410 W. Reynolds backed into the side of the Teeslink car. Mrs. Steinbach was pulling from a parking place at the time. Damages ot the 1972 Cadillac driven by Teeslink were estimated at $200; and the 1965 Chevrolet driven by Mrs.

Steinbach suffered damages of $185. Brit Hume that exists in Washington. "The price af secrecy in this country "for the past decade has been bloodshed," Hume said, and attributed the escalation of the Vietnam war to Lyndon Johnson and misleading information given to Congress on Tonkin Bay incident. What would have happened if the public had known that while Johnson was compaigning for reelection on a peace promise he was planning escalation of the war, Hume asked. In reference to the Pentagon papers, Hume said that Daniel Elsberg may go to jail for releasing some of those volumes to the press while Lyndon Johnson received a $1.2 million tax-free advance for hisrecentbdokindludingmuchof the same information.

Hume remarked that Johnson took so many official papers with him to Texas for his memorial library that President Nixon could notfind memos relating to use of the hot line telephone. 26 births at St. James in March Twenty-six births were recorded at St. James Hospital during the month of March. The total included 13 boys and 13 girls, according to hospital authorities.

He said the press has a more responsible record than government because bureaucracy has "made a shambles and joke of the security classification system" in order to cover up its own blunders.
