Arlivn TUCSON DAILY CITIZEN FRIDAY EVENING, SEPTEMBER 26, 1758 Army Seizes Control Of Burma RANGOON, I a bloodless coup, the Burmese Army tonight took over administration of this strife-torn republic. Throughout the country, the army--in a coordinated move--took over the protection and security of all major towns. i Guard Dog Proves Friendly As Pup Top army leaders expressed belief a certain political group--unnamed--has been collecting arms to wipe out all opposition groups and take over the country. Army intelligence expressed the opinion the Communists preparing to help this group.

The army has appeared for calm and order, though no proclamation has yet been issued. Communications are normal and the errny says the only reason it has taken over the administration of the country is to preserve law and order. Its aim is to see that democracy does not die, it said. The Buddhist Prime Minister, Nu, is to hand over administration to the army tonight. He is making this known in a nationwide broadcast.

Assurance has been given by army leaders that they are ready to hand over to any government which can guarantee the well-being and security of the people-the implication being that the present government is incapable of solving the ills of the country. Burma'i troubles have been primarily political, but the situation has been compounded by rebellious tribesmen in the provinces. Dogs Kill Sheep Here A scourge of the old west--sheep- killing dogs--has turned up again near Tucson. Three large dogs of mixed blood i have struck twice during the early morning hours within the past five days at a herd of 50 sheep pas- i tured in the 200 block of West i Nebraska street. Alaska told deputies the first attack occurred early Monday, when one of the sheep was killed. The dogs returned about daylight Thursday and killed two sheep while crippling seven others that may die. The sheep are valued at $20 each. Valdez, the foreman in charge of the animals, told deputies that he got a shot at the dogs Thursday and may have wounded one of them. Three deputies joined Valdez during the early morning hours today, but the dogs didn't return.

The officers will return to keep watch again tonight. By DON SCHELL1E Magic--a professional guard dog--showed a previ- unknown side of her pooch-inality the last two days after wandering off from her post. Handled by James Lee of the Pima Merchant Patrol, Magic is a gray-black, 110-pound German shepherd who has been specially trained to be "dangerous" to adults. We've trained her. to be--if anything-unfriendly." Miss Fritz yesterday turned Magic-Girl over to the Pima County animal shelter after she was unable to locate the owner.

Deputies said Pima Merchant Patrol employes identified and claimed the dog. "I'm kind of sorry they did," said Miss Fritz. "I had asked the shelter people if I could have her if she wasn't claimed within four days." Bimbo and Koko are alone again, and as for Magic --she's back pounding the beat. Ben Clawson, assistant chairman of the Chamber of Commerce industrial development committee, urged a in Tucsonians' thinking and criticized what he termed a lack of foresight in planning.

As an example, he pointed out that downtown Tucson is hemmed in by underpasses on the east and north, "Yet we turn around and do the same thing on the West Side." He referred to the West Speedway underpass. "In another 10 years we'll be looking for Sll million to move the West Side underpass." He said it duplicates the transportation and water problems of the other underpasses. "Twenty years from now, the only place we'll have to go is straight up." Clawson also criticized Tuc- sonians for going into their pockets' for a million and a half dollars for hospitals but not putting up that much to attract industry. "If Tucson wants industry, its people will have to change from Old Pueblo thinking to industrial thinking," he said. "We have looked into numerous projects right here in Tucson that require capital to develop and create industry right at home.

Many of them have merit," he said, but added that, if Tucson is interested in industry, its citizens will have to risk spending some capital. He advocated that motel and hotel operators put up money to get a convention hall in Tucson' which would increase the number of visitors. Jewelry Store Is Burglarized A burglar smashed out the front door glass at Keener Jewelry, 1032 N. Swan and cleaned out three display cases last night. Taken were necklace and earring sets, assorted watches and a number of rings.

C. Keener, estimated the loss at "several hundred dollars." No effort was made to take any money and none of the other jewelry was disturbed. The items taken were among the most expensive in the store, according to reports. The burglary was not discovered until the owner of an adjoining business arrived for work this i morning and noticed the broken door. City police are investigating.

$638,000 Grants OK'd To Hospitals PHOENIX-W)--The State Hospital Construction and Survey Advisory Council gave Tucson's hospital program a. big shot in the arm yesterday. It approved grants totaling '000 for construction and improvements St. Mary's Hospital and the Tucson Medical Center. The money is allocated under the federal Hill-Burton act which requires that hospital sponsors put' up matching amounts.

This completes a $1 million grant to both institutions approved by the council last year. The council also approved federal grants for these institutions: Maricopa County Hospital, $800,000 for construction of a county health unit building. Memorial Hospital, Phoenix, $180,000 for a new surgical wing, wing and other additions. Yavapal County Hospital, $150,000 for improvements and additions including a new 54-bed nursing home facility. Arizona State Hospital, $100,000 for plant rehabilitation, conditional upon matching legislative appropriation.

The tonnage involved was not announced.

A small amphibious vthicle with eight news correspondents overturned in heavy seas during the operation and five of them are missing. The missing were listed by a competent source as three Chinese and two foreigners. None of the missing were Americans. H. W.

'Hook' Young Taken By Death Harmon W. Young, 62, a onetime sergeant in the Army's famed Rainbow Division, died yesterday at his home, 2121 E. Mitchell St. Mr. Young had been an on-and- off resident of Tucson for the past 25 years.

He had lived here contiguously for about a year after his home in Indianapolis, Ind. During World War Mr. Young was a line sergeant in the 150th Field Artillery of the Rainbow Division. At the time of his death, he was vice president of the National Rainbow Division, a post-, war association of men who had served in the division during World War I or II. Mr.

Young, known by the nickname "Hook," had been retired for several years because of arthritis. Miramonte Group Wants Sidewalks Petitions are being circulated to form a $40,000 improvement district to put sidewalks in an eight- block section of Miramonte Terrace subdivision. Signatures of a majority of property owners will be necessary to form the district, County Street Superintendent D. A. DiCicco said today.

Ken Florian, 1031 S. Carnegie is spearheading the move. If the district is set up, sidewalks would be installed in the area bounded by. Ke'nyon Drive and East 22nd street on the north and south respectively, by Mann avenue on the west and Lehigh drive on the east. Pipe Trades Circus Host to 100 Kids Approximately 100 Tucson children will provided with tickets and transportation to the Rudy Brothers Circus at Hi Corbett Field tomorrow.

The Arizona Pipe Trade Industry is the benefactor of the children, known to welfare agencies and who would not be able to attend the circus otherwise. Bob Dietrich, field representative of Arizona Pipe Trade Industry, said the children would meet in Sunset Park opposite the Pima County Courthouse, before 1 p.m. TRT buses will take the children to the circus. Bonelli Located In Mexico City SAN DIEGO Iff) William G. Bonelli, fugitive former California state official who fled from Arizona two years ago, has been reported located in Mexico City.

The U. S. ambassador to Mexico said in Mexico City that he expects Bonelli will be extradited. Bonelli faces charges of bribery in San Diego and Riverside County grand jury indictments. Ambassador Robert C.

Hill told a reporter that Bonelli was located at a residence in Mexico City and that Mexican authorities are investigating. Mexican police had said after the U.S. State Department requested extradition last July that they were unable to locate Bonelli. Bonelli, who owns a ranch near Kingman, was charged with bribery following his defeat for reelection to the California State Board of Equalization in 1954. He returned to his Arizona ranch and fought extradition until his flight to Mexico.
